Shibori Recreated looks at the modern place of the craft and its use in art, design and fashion. Through interviews with designers and artists who are recreating and reinventing the ancient Japanese art of shibori in different ways, its adaptability and contemporary relevance will be understood, and the fine line between tradition and modernity appreciated. While the term 'modern shibori' is much a contradiction in itself, this book hopes to show you how a respect for a unique and amazing traditional craft can allow it to live on in a fast-paced, technologically advanced modern world. Modern shibori exists all over the world in wonderfully unique forms that designers and craftspeople have developed to suit their own art. This book is a platform to promote modern shibori on a world stage and its place in design today. Shibori contains interviews and a photographic journal of diverse artisans, designers, fashion identities and textile collectors and showcases the beauty of this unique craft and the journey the artist has taken with a simple piece of cloth. The book explores the various uses of the ancient craft and the versatility of fabric manipulation in the digital age. The ancient craft has not been lost, replaced or corrupted but reinvented and recreated to ensure its relevance and survival in the 21st Century.

The Crit Group written by Carol Anne Grotrian and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-28 with categories.

This book focuses on a group of Massachusetts quilters calling themselves The Crit Group. For 30 years, they have been meeting regularly to look at each other's work and provide feedback on the design and execution of their quilts. Each of the member artists--Judy Becker, Nancy Crasco, Sandy Donabed, Sylvia Einstein, and Carol Anne Grotrian--has a unique voice and style, and each is an accomplished artist within a community of women who, in the last quarter of the twentieth-century, have brought the traditions of quiltmaking into a new form of contemporary artistic expression. Members of The Crit Group have exhibited widely, have been published extensively, and have sold their work into corporate, private, and museum collections. This book includes a history and connections, and is fully illustrated with their art.Judy Becker's most recent works are geometric symphonies on a small scale. She has created over 500 of these color/texture variations in a 12 inch square format on several organic themes. Judy often includes shells, pebbles or a bit of rust, the latter a nod to the beauty of aging. Nancy Crasco has created a body of work influenced by traditional Asian textiles, Buddhist kesa (liturgical robes) and ban (temple banners) and, more recently, Korean pojagi (wrapping cloths). Nancy works mostly in thematic series that speak to ecological and political issues. Sandy Donabed uses a rich collection of antique fabrics and employs a variety of fiber and non-fiber processes to create heavily appliquéd works, often with an autobiographical message. Sylvia Einstein creates complex, carefully balanced compositions that are based on the traditional crazy quilts of the late nineteenth century, but with themes that are of the present day. The unusual, bold fabrics she uses "talk" to each other within the pieces she creates. Carol Anne Grotrian's landscapes have their origins in drawings she creates on location in New England and beyond. Her own shibori dyed fabrics recreate the rich palette and strong linear qualities of her drawings in fiber. Carol Anne also works with indigo dyeing, a perfect partner to her shibori.

Japan Beyond The Kimono written by Jenny Hall and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-06 with Design categories.

In the ancient city of Kyoto, contemporary artisans and designers are using heritage techniques and traditional clothing aesthetics to reinvent wafuku (Japanese clothing, including kimono) for modern life. Japan Beyond the Kimono explores these shifts, highlighting developments in the Kyoto fashion industry such as its integration of digital weaving and printing techniques and the influence of social media on fashion distribution systems. Through case studies of designers, artisans, and retailers, Jenny Hall provides a comprehensive picture of the reasons behind the production and consumption of these rejuvenated fashion goods. She argues that conceptualisations of Japanese tradition include innovation and change, which is vital to understanding how Japanese cultural heritage is both sustained and evolving. Essential reading for students and scholars of fashion, anthropology, and Japanese studies, Jenny Hall's sensory ethnography is the first of its kind, describing the lived experiences of people in the Kyoto textiles industry, explaining the renewal of traditional techniques and styles, and placing them both within contexts such as transnational 'craftscapes' and fast or slow fashion systems.
