It is said that writing is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration. I absolutely agree, and Im sure most successful writers would echo my sentiments: Inspiration is the easy part. Over the years I have spoken with and taught beginning writers from all around the world, in all sorts of settings. I have helped them review, edit, and rewrite their work, and I have found one common thread among those would-be writers who eventually become published authors: They are willing to devote themselves to the not-so-easy part of writingthe 90 percent perspiration. As I worked with these many writers I discovered what I consider to be the simplest and most practical writing method availablethe train-of-thought method. This excellent, well known writing method did not originate with me, but it seems no one had ever taken the time to put the method in book form. I therefore decided to do so myself. This is not a book about proper grammar or punctuation, or how best to choose the voice or set the scene for your great American novel. There are already countless books covering those subjects, if thats what youre looking for. But if you want to know how best to take your thoughts and dreams and put them into a clear, compelling, readable manuscript, then this is the book for you. Having personally seen the train-of-thought writing method help so many new writers learn to organize, write, and polish their ideas into successful manuscripts, I offer this book to those who would do the same. May it direct and encourage you as you enter into the 90 percent perspiration phase of your writing careerthe serious phase through which true writers are formed.

There is no one who has not heard family stories so often that they have not become rote. It is because of this familiarity that not many has ever thought of the cultural and historical aspects of their family in relation to their home and country. I have tried to incorporate these tales accented with poems into a time frame about Newfoundland. I am an only child and I married into a Newfoundland family of eleven siblings. And as a stranger I was able to sit back, listen, wonder and enjoy the richness of their lives and the land. I really appreciated this feeling, the warmth, laughter and the joy knowing I was a part of it. These stories tell about the onset of electrical in town and home and the effects upon the people. They show the downfall of animal usage for power to that of mechanical power. There are stories to show the hardships of making a living whether on the sea or land. And all can be tied to a political system that gave up their unity for confederation with Canada and all its implications. There are stories of social values, morality and religion that make up the ethos of these particular Newfoundlanders. However, these stories of one family and friends are comparable to stories found in many other towns, cities and countries. Perhaps people will associate their recollections with these tales and realize they have a history as well.

Innovative methodological approaches are vital for experienced researchers and early-career researchers alike to conduct research. In order to provide them with the best possible resources, the methodologies must be comprehensive and describe the data sources, approaches to data collection, and approaches to data analysis that are typically employed within the given methodological approach. Methodological Innovations in Research and Academic Writing serves as a resource for graduate students and higher education faculty and presents a number of methodological innovations in research as well as applied examples of these methodologies in practice. The chapters focus on the application of methodological approaches (through the presentation of real-world examples) and descriptions of the epistemological foundations of the given methodologies so that researchers can fully articulate and justify their methodological choices in the context of their research design. It is a crucial guide for graduate students who are designing and writing their doctoral dissertations as it introduces them to the best practices related to rigorous research design and academic writing. This book is ideal for graduate students, higher education faculty, researchers, and academicians.
