Seit der Gründung der ersten fünf Gesellschaften für christlich-jüdische Zusammenarbeit (GCJZ) und ihres Dachverbandes, des Deutschen Koordinierungsrates (DKR), in den Jahren 1948/49 ist die Zahl der "Gesellschaften" auf über 80 in ganz Deutschland angewachsen. Als eine der ältesten und größten zivilgesellschaftlichen Bürgerinitiativen haben sie mit ihren gut 2700 Veranstaltungen im Jahr und der jährlich ausgerichteten "Woche der Brüderlichkeit" maßgeblich dazu beigetragen, nach NS-Diktatur und Shoa eine elementar nötige "Mentalitätsveränderung in Deutschland" (Ernst Elitz) herbeizuführen. Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge behandeln die im Wesentlichen vier großen Themenfelder, die sich im Lauf der zurückliegenden siebzig Jahre als Arbeitsschwerpunkte des DKR und seiner GCJZ herauskristallisierten: der Kampf gegen Antisemitismus und Rechtsradikalismus, die Pflege der Erinnerungskultur, der christlich-jüdische Dialog und die Solidarität mit dem Staat Israel und seinen Menschen. Auf diese Weise bieten die hier versammelten Beiträge namhafter Autoren eine beeindruckende Bilanz des christlich-jüdischen Dialogs und zeigen Perspektiven für dessen künftige Entwicklung auf.
