Debido a la ausencia de una interpretación homogénea -henología versus ontología- en los estudios medievales acerca del significado de la natura, propone estudiar cuáles han sido las vías principales de justificación del contenido de dicha natura como explicación y manifestación (explicatio) de un principio artífice causal. Se profundiza en las nociones de unidad y pluralidad imbricadas en un mundo en el que el Logos se manifiesta -al modo de causalidad inmanente- en diversos ámbitos de la legibilidad de lo natural. La selección de líneas significativas -que giran históricamente, de modo precedente, o consecuente, alrededor de la polémica del Liber de causis- servirá para un diálogo con algunas exposiciones contemporáneas acerca de la recuperación de la concepción del Logos clásico; tal como se plantea, por ejemplo, en H. G. Gadamer y J.-L. Nancy. *** Die Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes erörtern die für die kosmologisch-metaphysische Spekulation des Mittelalters zentrale Frage nach der Einheit und Vielheit des Logos im Kosmos. Jenseits der üblichen Gegenüberstellung von Henologie und Ontologie, wie sie in der Forschung über die mittelalterliche Konzeption der natura noch weitgehend dominierend ist, wird hier der Versuch unternommen, einige der Hauptlinien zu skizzieren, auf denen die Rechtfertigung der Auffassung stattgefunden hat, nach der die Natur im Ganzen als Entfaltung und Manifestation (explicatio) eines künstlich-schöpferischen kausalen Prinzips zu begreiffen ist. Dabei spielt die Polemik um das sogenannte Liber de causis vom historischen und systematischen Standpunkt aus eine zentrale Rolle. Im Zusammenhang mit der Diskussion klassischer mittelalterlicher Positionen wird schließlich auch die Möglichkeit eines produktiven Dialogs mit zeitgenössischen Konzeptionen erörtert, die auf eine Rehabilitierung der klassischen Logos-Auffassung abzielen, so etwa bei Autoren wie H.-G. Gadamer und J.-L. Nancy.

Die Studie «Performing the Archive» dokumentiert die Ergebnisse eines ersten Forschungsprojektes, das sich mit der Archivierung Freien Theaters beschäftigt. Seit mehr als 50 Jahren haben sich in Deutschland die Freien Darstellenden Künste als «zweite Säule» der Theaterlandschaft herausgebildet. Die Überlieferung seiner künstlerischen und kulturpolitischen sowie der organisatorischen und administrativen Praxis ist zwar überwiegend noch vorhanden, befindet sich aber weit verstreut, zumeist an den Orten ihrer Entstehung, ist aber unerschlossen und vom Verfall bedroht. Mit der Studie werden konzeptionelle Grundlagen geschaffen, um einen relevanten Bestandteil des kulturellen Erbes zu sichern und zugänglich zu machen. So wie das Freie Theater aus der kritischen Selbstermächtigung und innovativen Selbstorganisation seiner Künstler*innen entstanden ist, haben sich seine organisierten Akteur*innen aus Kulturpolitik und Wissenschaft zusammengetan und mit Unterstützung des Bundes und einiger Bundesländer einen Forschungsprozess für ein Archiv des Freien Theaters initiiert, dessen umfassende Bestandsaufnahme hier vorgelegt wird. Die Studie mit ihren Erkenntnissen, Expertisen und Handlungsempfehlungen zeichnet aus künstlerischer und wissenschaftlicher sowie technologischer und rechtlicher Sicht die strukturellen Konturen eines Archivs des Freien Theaters, das als dezentrale und digitale Wissensplattform die Voraussetzungen sowohl für ein «Performing the Archive» in der Praxis wie auch für kulturpolitische Diskurse zur Weiterentwicklung der Theaterlandschaft bietet. The study ‘Performing the Archives’ documents the results of one of the first research projects to examine the archiving of the Free Theatre movement. For over 50 years the free performing arts have constituted a ‘second pillar’ of the German theatre world. The records of artistic practice, cultural policy and organisational and administrative practice certainly survive in large part, but are widely dispersed, most being in the place of their origin, have not been properly archived and indexed, and are threatened with deterioration. This study lays the conceptual foundations for securing and making available a relevant part of our cultural heritage. Just as the Free Theatre movement grew out of the critical self-empowerment and innovative self-organisation of its artists, organisers in the fields of cultural policy and academia have come together and, with the support of the German Federal Government and of some German states, initiated a research process to create an Free Theatre archive. Its comprehensive survey is presented here. The study, with its insights, expertise and recommendations for action, describes from artistic and academic as well as technological and legal perspectives the structural contours of an archive which, as a decentralised and digital knowledge platform, provides the basis required both for ‘Performing the archive’ in practice and for cultural-political discourses of the future development of the theatrical landscape.

The present volume provides a comparative look at the contents and layout features of secondary annotations in biblical manuscripts across linguistic traditions. Due to the privileged focus on the text in the columns, these annotations and the practices that produced them have not received the scholarly attention they deserve. The vast richness of extant verbal and figurative notes accompanying the biblical texts in the intercolumns and margins of the manuscript pages have thus been largely overlooked. The case studies gathered in this volume explore Jewish and Christian biblical manuscripts through the lens of their annotations, addressing the various relationships between the primary layer of text and the secondary notes, and exploring the roles and functions of annotated manuscripts as cultural artifacts. By approaching biblical manuscripts as potential "notepads", the volume offers theoretical reflection and empirical analyses of the ways in which secondary notes may shed new light on the development and transmission of text traditions, the shifting engagement with biblical manuscripts over time, as well as the change of use and interpretation that may result from the addition of the notes themselves.

In Minimal Selfhood and the Origins of Consciousness, R.D.V. Glasgow seeks to ground the logical roots of consciousness in what he has previously called the 'minimal self'. The idea is that elementary forms of consciousness are logically dependent not, as is commonly assumed, on ownership of an anatomical brain or nervous system, but on the intrinsic reflexivity that defines minimal selfhood. The aim of the book is to trace the logical pathway by which minimal selfhood gives rise to the possible appearance of consciousness. It is argued that in specific circumstances it thus makes sense to ascribe elementary consciousness to certain predatory single-celled organisms such as amoebae and dinoflagellates as well as to some of the simpler animals. Such an argument involves establishing exactly what those specific circumstances are and determining how elementary consciousness differs in nature and scope from its more complex manifestations.
