In LOCKER ROOM TALK, we listen in on the epic and ordinary moments that happen when women are together. Subverting the traditional idea of "locker room talk," this collection illuminates the conversations women share with family, friends, and strangers, whether at the sinks of a nightclub ladies' room, on a bus heading to the Women's March, or in the kitchen of an elder relative. Cumulatively, they reveal the myriad ways women care for themselves, each other, their communities, and our world. Literary Nonfiction. Poetry. Fiction. Essay. Women's Studies.

"Locker Room Talk is a provocative piece of event theatre. Inspired by Donald Trump's leaked sexually aggressive comments, the show is a confronting exploration of the phenomenon the then presidential candidate later dismissed as 'locker room banter'. But can this be true? Is this simply a loathsome individual or one who speaks to a silent majority? Gary McNair wants to think we are better than this, and is having honest conversations with men about women to see if he is right or wrong. The words of these men are performed by a cast of women in this verbatim piece"--About the play.

Since man first harnessed consciousness, we have watched and learnt. Observing the traits and behaviours of every facet in our environment. This means we have an ability to predict what is safe, comfortable and reliable. In our own mind this creates an invaluable safety net for our decision-making processes. But what seems like a useful tool in our head, can be cruel and patently unfair beyond it. Trends in a world driven by the Internet are educating us about how harmful stereotyping can be. And those falling foul of a behaviour seemingly ingrained in our DNA, are paying high-profile prices. Locker Room Talk examines how we got here, why it’s so hard to change our mindset and the consequences for us and the brands we represent, if we do not.

While sportswriters rushed into Major League Baseball locker rooms to talk with players, MLB Commissioner Bowie Kuhn barred the lone woman from entering along with them. That reporter, 26-year-old Sports Illustrated reporter Melissa Ludtke, charged Kuhn with gender discrimination, and after the lawyers argued Ludtke v. Kuhn in federal court, she won. Her 1978 groundbreaking case affirmed her equal rights, and the judge’s order opened the doors for several generations of women to be hired in sports media. Locker Room Talk is Ludtke’s gripping account of being at the core of this globally covered case that churned up ugly prejudices about the place of women in sports. Kuhn claimed that allowing women into locker rooms would violate his players’ “sexual privacy.” Late-night television comedy sketches mocked her as newspaper cartoonists portrayed her as a sexy, buxom looker who wanted to ogle the naked athletes’ bodies. She weaves these public perspectives throughout her vivid depiction of the court drama overseen by Judge Constance Baker Motley, the first Black woman to serve on the federal bench. She recounts how her lawyer, F.A.O. “Fritz” Schwarz employed an ingenious legal strategy that persuaded Judge Motley to invoke the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause in giving Ludtke access identical to her male counterparts. Locker Room Talk is both an inspiring story of one woman’s determination to do a job dominated by men and an illuminating portrait of a defining moment for women’s rights.

The present research examines the effects of "locker room talk" by exploring whether conversations among men about sexual activity with women give rise to sexist and rapepromoting attitudes. Male participants listened to an audio recording of either degrading or respectful "locker room talk". Those exposed to the degrading conversation were expected to exhibit more negative attitudes toward women and stronger rape condoning attitudes. In addition, sexist males were expected to delegate masculine status to men who degraded women. Hypothesis one was not supported, but hypothesis two received partial support: Relative to men lower in sexism, males with higher sexism scores allocated masculine status to men who talked about their sexual encounters regardless of the conversation's degrading or respectful nature. Men scoring higher in sexism were more likely to endorse rapesupportive attitudes, to hold negative attitudes towards women, and to objectify the woman being discussed in the conversation.

Now that Donald Trump is president we must address the issue of locker room talk across the entire autism spectrum. Locker room talk is not appropriate conversation for teenagers or young adults to be having and people with autism might be confused now that Mr. Trump is president and approves of such talk. Now, the autism community must work harder than ever in trying to stop locker room talk. T.B talks about how to intervene early. We want to make sure that everyone understands what locker room talk is because they are going to be exposed to it. We just have to be sure that kids on the spectrum know that it is not socially appropriate for them to be engaging in locker room talk as Mr. Trump sees it. T.B. has been in several locker rooms throughout his life and has never witnessed the type of locker room talk that President Elect Trump speaks. T.B says that we should hold our president accountable as being a role model for younger children and even those with disabilities. Instead of mocking people that are different than Mr. Trump, T.B. thinks that he should address the nation and bring us all together again. Mr. Trump has the power to do a lot of good while in office because he controls all three branches of government for two years. T.B. shares stories of how he was victimized and bullied by other high school students for not participating in locker room talk at school. T.B. does not want to see anyone get bullied especially those kids with autism who like him were just socially naive and could not defend themselves. T.B. tells all in this awesome book about how he grew up and learned to fit in without having locker room conversations.
