Learning Strategies And Learning Styles written by Ronald R. Schmeck and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Psychology categories.

A style is any pattern we see in a person's way of accomplishing a particular type of task. The "task" of interest in the present context is education-learning and remembering in school and transferring what is learned to the world outside of school. Teachers are expressing some sort of awareness of style when they observe a particular action taken by a particular student and then say something like: "This doesn't surprise me! That's just the way he is. " Observation of a single action cannot reveal a style. One's impres sion of a person's style is abstracted from multiple experiences of the person under similar circumstances. In education, if we understand the styles of individual students, we can often anticipate their perceptions and subsequent behaviors, anticipate their misunderstandings, take ad vantage of their strengths, and avoid (or correct) their weaknesses. These are some of the goals of the present text. In the first chapter, I present an overview of the terminology and research methods used by various authors of the text. Although they differ a bit with regard to meanings ascribed to certain terms or with regard to conclusions drawn from certain types of data, there is none theless considerable agreement, especially when one realizes that they represent three different continents and five different nationalities.

The activities that transpire within the classroom either help or hinder students' learning. Any meaningful discussion of educational renewal, therefore, must focus explicitly and directly on the classroom, and on the teaching and learning that occur within it. This book presents a case for the development of classrooms in which students are encouraged to construct deep understandings of important concepts. Jacqueline Grennon Brooks and Martin Brooks present a new set of images for educational settings, images that emerge from student engagement, interaction, reflection, and construction. They have considerable experience in creating constructivist educational settings and conducting research on those settings. Authentic examples are provided throughout the book, as are suggestions for administrators, teachers, and policymakers. For the new edition of their popular book, the authors have written an introduction that places their work in today's educational renewal setting. Today, they urge, the case for constructivist classrooms is much stronger and the need more critical. Note: This product listing is for the Adobe Acrobat (PDF) version of the book.

Differentiated Primary Science written by Anne Qualter and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-01-01 with Education categories.

What is differentiation? How can it be put into practice in primary science lessons? Is it really possible to provide differentiated learning activities for a class of thirty or more primary children? Taking a refreshingly pragmatic approach, Anne Qualter addresses these challenging issues in this book. Drawing on her own experience as a classroom teacher combined with research undertaken in a wide range of primary classrooms, the author shows that genuinely differentiated primary science is achievable. Using several classroom examples, she argues that differentiation is not simply about categorizing children as more or less able but involves the teacher in complex decisions which take account of the child's understanding and capabilities, their cultural background, gender, linguistic capabilities, interests and a variety of other factors. The book will be invaluable reading for both trainee and practising primary school teachers.

Constructivist Teaching written by John A. Zahorik and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Constructivism (Education) categories.

This fastback examines the theory and practice of constructivist teaching and suggests how teachers can decide what form of constructivist teaching they might want to use. Constructivist teaching theory is explored under the headings "knowledge" and "humans." According to constructivist theory, knowledge is constructed by humans, it is conjectural and fallible, and it grows through exposure. Humans have a built-in aversion to disorder and have internal knowledge structures that guide perceptions, understanding, and action. Five elements of one conception of constructivist teaching practice include; activating prior knowledge, acquiring knowledge, understanding knowledge, using knowledge, and reflecting knowledge. The four types of constructivist teaching that emerge from these five elements are application, discovery, extension, and invention. Examples of these types are given. The next section focuses on beliefs and their importance in deciding about constructivist teaching and which forms to use. In the last sections, threats to implementation and the future of constructivist teaching are discussed. (Contains 14 references.) (ND)

In this pioneering text, a constructivist approach guides users in learning how to teach in a constructivist manner. The book is based on the belief that it’s more important for children to learn how to do science than it is for them to learn about science, and that teachers of elementary science do not need to know a great deal of science to teach it effectively, but rather need to be co-inquirers with their students. More than 170 process-oriented activities, organized by grade level, help practicing teachers encourage children to develop and perform their own investigations.

The Iranian languages form the major eastern branch of the Indo-European group of languages, itself part of the larger Indo-Iranian family. Estimated to have between 150 and 200 million native speakers, the Iranian languages constitute one of the world’s major language families. This comprehensive volume offers a detailed overview of the principle languages which make up this group: Old Iranian, Middle Iranian, and New Iranian. The Iranian Languages is divided into fifteen chapters. The introductory chapters by the editor present a general overview and a detailed discussion of the linguistic typology of Iranian. The individual chapters which follow are written by leading experts in the field. These provide the reader with concise, non-technical descriptions of a range of Iranian languages. Each chapter follows the same pattern and sequence of topics, taking the reader through the significant features not only of phonology and morphology but also of syntax; from phrase level to complex sentences and pragmatics. Ample examples on all levels are provided with detailed annotation for the non-specialist reader. In addition, each chapter covers lexis, sociolinguistic and typological issues, and concludes with annotated sample texts. This unique resource is the ideal companion for undergraduate and postgraduate students of linguistics and language. It will also be of interest to researchers or anyone with an interest in historical linguistics, linguistics anthropology and language development. Gernot Windfuhr is Professor of Iranian Studies at the University of Michigan; he has published widely on Persian and Iranian languages and linguistics and related languages, as well as on other aspects of Iranian culture including Persian literature and Pre-Islamic Iranian religions.

Multiple Intelligences written by Howard E. Gardner and has been published by Basic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Education categories.

Howard Gardner's brilliant conception of individual competence is changing the face of education today. In the ten years since the publication of his seminal Frames of Mind , thousands of educators, parents, and researchers have explored the practical implications of Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory—the powerful notion that there are separate human capacities, ranging from musical intelligence to the intelligence involved in understanding oneself. Multiple Intelligences: The Theory in Practice brings together previously published and original work by Gardner and his colleagues at Project Zero to provide a coherent picture of what we have learned about the educational applications of MI theory from projects in schools and formal research over the last decade.
