Tomando distancia de la vasta literatura polémica con la que la figura de los terratenientes se identifica, este libro ofrece un relato original sobre el origen, apogeo y declinación de los grandes señores de la pampa. Apoyado en una vasta y detallada investigación, presenta la historia de esta poderosa elite en toda su riqueza y densidad. El estudio atiende en especial a la historia social y política de los terratenientes entre 1860 y 1945, pero también se refiere a las dimensiones económicas y culturales de la experiencia de esta elite. Analiza, al mismo tiempo, sus complejas y cambiantes relaciones con otros actores de la vida del país (los empresarios industriales, las clases subalternas rurales, el Estado nacional y provincial). Los terratenientes de la pampa argentina arroja nueva luz sobre las características del grupo social de mayor poder e influencia de la Argentina preperonista; también ofrece un lente a través del cual pueden entenderse rasgos fundamentales de la sociabilidad argentina. Roy Hora es historiador. Se doctoró en la Universidad de Oxford en 1998. Es investigador del CONICET en la Universidad Nacional de Quilmes.
