A pesquisa se insere no debate da relação sociedade-natureza, mais especificamente sobre as conexões entre "questão ambiental" e "questão social". O objetivo foi analisar como a relação entre "questão ambiental" e pobreza aparece nas formulações ideopolíticas dos organismos internacionais. Para tanto fez-se inicialmente um percurso teórico que, baseado na teoria social marxiana e na tradição marxista, buscou compreender os determinantes sócio-históricos que incidem sobre os processos contemporâneos de destrutividade da natureza, captando as mediações particulares da formação social brasileira. Nesse movimento teórico-histórico foi possível identificar como as refrações da "questão social" alcançam o campo ambiental. O estudo analisou documentos da ONU, PNUD e PNUMA, especialmente Relatórios de Desenvolvimento Humano, para captar como a "questão ambiental" cruza o debate e as proposições sobre pobreza nos organismos internacionais. A problemática ambiental, reconhecida em suas expressões e mistificada em seus fundamentos, converte-se em causa fundamental da pobreza, numa formulação ideológica que contribui para manter inalteradas a propriedade privada, a mercadoria como forma de riqueza, a exploração do trabalho e a expansão capitalista que submete as necessidades humanas às necessidades do capital e por isso mesmo geram cada vez mais desigualdade social e destrutividade ambiental.

In Between Reason and Experience, leading philosopher of technology Andrew Feenberg makes a case for the interdependence of reason—scientific knowledge, technical rationality—and experience.
