Final Report written by International Commission on the Holocaust in Romania and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Antisemitism categories.

The International Commission on the Holocaust in Romania was established in October 2003 on the initiative of Ion Iliescu, the President of Romania; this final report was presented to him in November 2004. The aim of the Commission was to research the facts and determine the truth about the Holocaust in Romania during World War II. The report examines various aspects of the state-organized participation of Romania in the mass murder of Jews in Romania and in Romanian-controlled territories, as well as in northern Transylvania where the genocide was perpetrated by the Nazis and their Hungarian allies. Inter alia, it discusses antisemitism and the evolution of Romanian anti-Jewish policies from the late 1930s to 1944, the impact of the Soviet annexation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina on antisemitism in Romania, anti-Jewish incidents in 1940 and the pogroms in Bucharest and Iaşi, mass murders of Jews in the recaptured provinces and deportation to Transnistria in 1941, mass murder of Jews in Odessa and in Transnistrian camps, the "Romanianization" of the economy and the expropriation of Romanian Jews, the reaction of the Jewish community in Romania to anti-Jewish policies, and the personal responsibility of Ion Antonescu for the genocide. Relates, also, to war crimes trials held in Romania, and to the trivialization of the Holocaust and its "selective" and outright denial in postwar Romania.

Byzantium After Byzantium written by Nicolae Iorga and has been published by Histria Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-24 with History categories.

Although Constantinople fell to the Turks in 1453, bringing an end to the Eastern Roman Empire which had survived its predecessor in the West by nearly one thousand years, this important book argues that Byzantium did not die, but continued to influence European history all the way up to the beginning of the nineteenth century. The author' s formula “ Byzantium after Byzantium” defines several centuries of world history. Iorga points out the great contributions of Byzantine civilization to the Western world, especially during the Renaissance. He demonstrates that Byzantium survived through its people and local autonomies, as well as through its exiles. They continued the Byzantine ideas, aspirations, education, and way of life. All of this allows us to speak of a Byzantium after Byzantium.

The Byzantine Apocalyptic Tradition written by Paul J. Alexander and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-10 with Religion categories.

Throughout Christian history, apocalyptic visions of the approaching end of time have provided a persistent and enigmatic theme for history and prophecy. Apocalyptic literature played a particularly important role in the medieval world, where legends of the Antichrist, Gog and Magog, and the Last Roman Emperor were widely circulated. Although scholars have long recognized that a body of Byzantine prophetic literature served as the source for these ideas, the Byzantine textual tradition, its sources, and the way in which it was transmitted to the West have neve been thoroughly understood. For more than fifteen years prior to his death in 1977, Paul J. Alexander devoted his energies to the clarification of the Byzantine apocalyptic tradition. These studies, left uncompleted at his death, trace the development of a textual tradition that passed from Syriac through Greek to Slavonic and Latin literature. Using a combination of philological and historical detection, the author establishes the time, place, and circumstances of composition for each of the major surviving texts, identifying lost works known only through descriptions. In showing how Byzantine prophecy served as a bridge between ancient eschatological works and the medieval West, Alexander demonstrates that apocalyptic literature represents a creative source for the expression of political and religious thought in the medieval world. A Brief Illustrated History Of Romanians written by Neagu Djuvara and has been published by Humanitas SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-28 with History categories.

This is not an ordinary history book. As readers will realise quite early on, Neagu Djuvara has the audacity to tackle some of the most delicate and controversial issues in Romanian history under the guise of light storytelling. With the addition of illustrations, the book becomes better and easier to understand: we are offered the chance to see how ancient artefacts discovered by archaeologists actually look like, or catch a glimpse of the world of barbarians and medieval warriors depicted in wonderful illuminated manuscripts. As we get nearer to the modern age, the imagery becomes even richer and we get to know Romania's princes and monarchs, their allies and their enemies, the politicians – good and bad – their triumphs, tribulations or even tragedies; and sometimes even the common people going about their daily lives. The photographic discourse focuses on the most important documents, even if their condition is not optimal. You will also find images of pottery, jewellery and weaponry, some of them from unexpected sources, often unknown to the public, accompanied by detailed captions that complement the information provided in the text itself. Together, the story and illustrations intertwine to form a new, enhanced historical account - and hopefully, one not lacking in originality.
