Routledge Handbook Of Global Economic History written by Francesco Boldizzoni and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-22 with Business & Economics categories.

The Routledge Handbook of Global Economic History documents and interprets the development of economic history as a global discipline from the later nineteenth century to the present day. Exploring the normative and relativistic nature of different schools and traditions of thought, this handbook not only examines current paradigmatic western approaches, but also those conceived in less open societies and in varied economic, political and cultural contexts. In doing so, this book clears the way for greater critical understanding and a more genuinely global approach to economic history. This handbook brings together leading international contributors in order to systematically address cultural and intellectual traditions around the globe. Many of these are exposed for consideration for the first time in English. The chapters explore dominant ideas and historiographical trends, and open them up to critical transnational perspectives. This volume is essential reading for both academics and students in economic and social history. As this field of study is very much a bridge between the social sciences and humanities, the issues examined in the book will also have relevance for those seeking to understand the evolution of other academic disciplines under the pressures of varied economic, political and cultural circumstances, on both national and global scales.

Access To Genetic Resources And Sustainable Innovation In The Health Industry And Health Research A Colombian Legal Perspective written by Carlos Augusto Conde Gutierrez and has been published by U. Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world and consequently has sought to employ genetic resources to further both its economic development and technological and scientific advancement. Colombia's implementation of the international regime on access to genetic resources and benefit sharing responds to the interests of the country in employing genetic resources for health research and also for the health industry. However, the relevant Colombian law leaves aside practices and knowledge that emanate from local, indigenous, and Afro-Colombian communities in adding value to biodiversity. Through an interdisciplinary analysis, this book adds a novel country case study to existing international socio-legal literature on the International Regime on Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing, showing its deficiencies when considered at national and local levels. Further, drawing on a Capability Approach, the book aims to suggest an alternative approach for Colombia, making the normative claim that such an approach would create a more inclusive model of innovation in the use of biodiversity.

City Art written by Rebecca Biron and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-17 with History categories.

In City/Art, anthropologists, literary and cultural critics, a philosopher, and an architect explore how creative practices continually reconstruct the urban scene in Latin America. The contributors, all Latin Americanists, describe how creativity—broadly conceived to encompass urban design, museums, graffiti, film, music, literature, architecture, performance art, and more—combines with nationalist rhetoric and historical discourse to define Latin American cities. Taken together, the essays model different ways of approaching Latin America’s urban centers not only as places that inspire and house creative practices but also as ongoing collective creative endeavors themselves. The essays range from an examination of how differences of scale and point of view affect people’s experience of everyday life in Mexico City to a reflection on the transformation of a prison into a shopping mall in Uruguay, and from an analysis of Buenos Aires’s preoccupation with its own status and cultural identity to a consideration of what Miami means to Cubans in the United States. Contributors delve into the aspirations embodied in the modernist urbanism of Brasília and the work of Lotty Rosenfeld, a Santiago performance artist who addresses the intersections of art, urban landscapes, and daily life. One author assesses the political possibilities of public art through an analysis of subway-station mosaics and Julio Cortázar’s short story “Graffiti,” while others look at the representation of Buenos Aires as a “Jewish elsewhere” in twentieth-century fiction and at two different responses to urban crisis in Rio de Janeiro. The collection closes with an essay by a member of the São Paulo urban intervention group Arte/Cidade, which invades office buildings, de-industrialized sites, and other vacant areas to install collectively produced works of art. Like that group, City/Art provides original, alternative perspectives on specific urban sites so that they can be seen anew. Contributors.
