Service-Dominant logic can be described as a mind-set for a unified understanding of the purpose and nature of organizations, markets and society. A concept that was first introduced by Vargo and Lusch in 2004, S-D logic has generated not just a vast host of journal articles and books but has established an expanding sphere of influence across marketing scholarship. In this book, the author uses a rhetorical approach to investigate the ‘marketing’ of Service-Dominant logic, asking how the formulation and presentation of the logic aids in its persuasive promotion. In doing so, the book explores the lexicon choices, metaphors, symbols, and persuasive gambits that have resonated so strongly with marketing academia, with the aim of understanding how these elements work together in a compelling narrative that delivers the logic’s core value proposition of transcendence. The author investigates how these rhetorical strategies have evolved as the S-D logic framework has developed, examining the revisions to its foundational premises and axioms and the introduction of new perspectives such as systems theory. As video becomes an important tool to expose injustice, an examination of how human rights organizations are seeking to professionalize video activism. Visual imagery is at the heart of humanitarian and human rights activism, and video has become a key tool in these efforts. The Saffron Revolution in Myanmar, the Green Movement in Iran, and Black Lives Matter in the United States have all used video to expose injustice. In Seeing Human Rights, Sandra Ristovska examines how human rights organizations are seeking to professionalize video activism through video production, verification standards, and training. The result, she argues, is a proxy profession that uses human rights videos to tap into journalism, the law, and political advocacy. Ristovska explains that this proxy profession retains some tactical flexibility in its use of video while giving up on the more radical potential and imaginative scope of video activism as a cultural practice. Drawing on detailed analysis of legal cases and videos as well as extensive interviews with staff members of such organizations as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, WITNESS, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the International Criminal Court (ICC), Ristovska considers the unique affordances of video and examines the unfolding relationships among journalists, human rights organizations, activists, and citizens in global crisis reporting. She offers a case study of the visual turn in the law; describes advocacy and marketing strategies; and argues that the transformation of video activism into a proxy profession privileges institutional and legal spaces over broader constituencies for public good.

The 5G technology has been commercialized worldwide and is expected to provide superior performance with enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-low latency transmission, and massive IoT connections. Meanwhile, the edge computing paradigm gets popular to provide distributed computing and storage resources in proximity to the users. As edge services and applications prosper, 5G and edge computing will be tightly coupled and continuously promote each other forward. Embracing this trend, however, mobile users, infrastructure providers, and service providers are all faced with the energy dilemma. On the user side, battery-powered mobile devices are much constrained by battery life, whereas mobile platforms and apps nowadays are usually power-hungry. At the infrastructure and service provider side, the energy cost of edge facilities accounts for a large proportion of operating expenses and has become a huge burden. This book provides a collection of most recent attempts to tackle the energy issues in mobile edge computing from new and promising perspectives. For example, the book investigates the pervasive low-battery anxiety among modern mobile users and quantifies the anxiety degree and likely behavior concerning the battery status. Based on the quantified model, a low-power video streaming solution is developed accordingly to save mobile devices' energy and alleviate users' low-battery anxiety. In addition to energy management for mobile users, the book also looks into potential opportunities to energy cost saving and carbon emission reduction at edge facilities, particularly the 5G base stations and geo-distributed edge datacenters.
