"Over the next few decades, we will see a profound energy transformation as society shifts from fossil fuels to renewable resources like solar, wind, biomass. But what might a one hundred percent renewable future actually look like, and what obstacles will we face in this transition? Authors explore the practical challenges and opportunities presented by the shift to renewable energy."--Page 4 of cover.

The Energy Imperative written by Hermann Scheer and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with TECHNOLOGY & ENGINEERING categories.

For decades, Hermann Scheer was one of the world's leading proponents of renewable energy. In this, his last book before his death in 2010, he lays out his vision for a planet 100% powered by renewables and examines the fundamental ethical and economic imperatives for such a shift. And most importantly, he demonstrates why the time for this transition is now. In Scheer's view, talk of "bridging technologies" such as carbon capture and storage or nuclear energy even (and perhaps especially) by environmentalists is actively damaging the more the pressing agenda of the move to 100% renewable energy. Instead, he offers up examples of the technologies which are working (economically) today and details the policy and market conditions which would allow them to flourish. In 1993, Scheer's A Solar Manifesto laid the foundations for the road which has led to annual newly installed renewable capacity today rivalling that of conventional power sources. The Energy Imperative provides a practical, inspirational map for the next stage of the journey.

Short And Long Term Stability Of A 100 Renewable Autonomous Power System For A Typical Geographical Region written by Chaminda Ranaweera and has been published by Cuvillier Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-18 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This research work is on Short- and Long-term Stability of a 100% Renewable Autonomous Power System for a Typical Geographical Region. It is concerned with understanding, modelling, analysing and mitigating power system stability problems associated with 100 percent renewable electrical power system. The complexity of power systems is continually increasing because of the growth in asynchronous interconnections and use of new power electronic based technologies for solar and wind power integrations. At the same time, regulatory constraints have forced utilities to increase the renewable energy share on the power systems. This research mainly deals with maximizing the Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) share in the power system. Implementation of 100 percent renewable electric power system is no longer a myth. However, the system requires a large energy storage capacity for full supply with renewable energy in the electricity sector and new large scale of synchronous inertia shall be added to the system for frequency stability. Furthermore, necessary measures have to be taken for maintaining power system oscillations and damping which occur due to frequent power disturbances from wind and solar energy sources. However, the implementation of 100 percent renewable electrical power system depends on the many other things such as the financial capability, resources availability, etc.

The greatest challenge of our time is to build a world based on the sustainable use of renewable power. Our massive dependence on fossil fuels has upset the very climatic system that made human evolution possible. The global economy and its financial system are in jeopardy, running hot on overtly cheap yet increasingly costly and fast depleting oil. A 100% renewable world is seen by many as an impossible dream in anything but the very long term. But not only do a growing number of initiatives and plans dare to make the change but many have already achieved it. This rich collection presents a series of pioneering efforts and their champions, and the paths to their successes. Ranging from initiatives by individuals to visions for companies, communities and entire countries, it defeats tired economic and technical counter-arguments, showing how the schemes featured not only can and do work but do so economically and with available technology. The book is introduced by incisive writing by Peter Droege, explaining the challenges and framing a roadmap towards a 100% renewable reality.

Few people doubt the threat of climate change and the urgent need to conquer fossil fuel addiction. But can renewable sources of energy ever be sufficient to provide modern societies with a decent quality of life? This book is clear. They can. And it outlines the strategies to break the barriers to a 100% renewable world. Danny Chivers presents a compelling introduction to renewable technologies for non-technical readers (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and ambient heat, wave and tidal, fuel crops, and energy from waste) and a roadmap to powering the world, not just sustainably, but democratically.
