The acclaimed editor of The New York Times Book Review takes readers on a nostalgic tour of the pre-Internet age, offering powerful insights into both the profound and the seemingly trivial things we've lost. NAMED ONE OF THE TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY CHICAGO TRIBUNE AND THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS • “A deft blend of nostalgia, humor and devastating insights.”—People Remember all those ingrained habits, cherished ideas, beloved objects, and stubborn preferences from the pre-Internet age? They’re gone. To some of those things we can say good riddance. But many we miss terribly. Whatever our emotional response to this departed realm, we are faced with the fact that nearly every aspect of modern life now takes place in filtered, isolated corners of cyberspace—a space that has slowly subsumed our physical habitats, replacing or transforming the office, our local library, a favorite bar, the movie theater, and the coffee shop where people met one another’s gaze from across the room. Even as we’ve gained the ability to gather without leaving our house, many of the fundamentally human experiences that have sustained us have disappeared. In one hundred glimpses of that pre-Internet world, Pamela Paul, editor of The New York Times Book Review, presents a captivating record, enlivened with illustrations, of the world before cyberspace—from voicemails to blind dates to punctuation to civility. There are the small losses: postcards, the blessings of an adolescence largely spared of documentation, the Rolodex, and the genuine surprises at high school reunions. But there are larger repercussions, too: weaker memories, the inability to entertain oneself, and the utter demolition of privacy. 100 Things We’ve Lost to the Internet is at once an evocative swan song for a disappearing era and, perhaps, a guide to reclaiming just a little bit more of the world IRL.

Arthur Smith is a national treasure, extremely well loved, with more than 45k Twitter followers. An anthology of Arthur Smith's uniquely varied written work, this is Arthur's first book for many years. 100 Things I Meant to Tell You brings together 100 stories, poems, and articles gathered over a colorful lifetime making a living on the comedy circuit. In 2005 Arthur turned down a Perrier Award for Lifetime Achievement, saying "They wanted to tell me I was old and cool; well, I know that already." Currently the popular host of BBC Radio 4 Extra's Comedy Club, he has traveled all over the British Isles and the rest of the world performing and reporting on a range of subjects as diverse as Flotsam and Jetsom in Holland (in a series for BBC 1's The One Show) and more recently, goat yoga in Ipswich, but never before has he corralled all these wonderful stories into book form. Some humorous, some anecdotal, some nostalgic, and some extremely poignant, the stories include the time Arthur was arrested for "breach of the peace and possession of a megaphone," the time he hitched a lift from a nun and heard his own voice (imitating Leonard Cohen) playing on her car radio, the fight he had with Billy Connelly, his flight in a Tiger Moth, and--in verse--his hatred of Teletubbies. Covering a huge range of subjects and emotions, tales of hilarious, chaotic antics are juxtaposed with gentle, bittersweet stories about love affairs that ended badly and his mother's journey into dementia, making this a cornucopia of delight for Arthur Smith fans everywhere.

This F. Scott Fitzgerald (フィッツジェラルド) collection compiles the works on which the fame of one of the most fascinating writers of the twentieth century was built. Francis Scott Fitzgerald became a mouthpiece for ideas and expressed the spiritual moods bubbling amongst the young people during the 1920s. Fitzgerald, in the words of Amory from This Side of Paradise (1920), wrote that a generation had “grown up to find all God’s dead, all wars fought, all faiths in man shaken”. Fitzgerald was the first to tell the world about the commencement of the “jazz age” with its carnival approach towards life- a lifestyle which he also followed. However, as a sensitive artist, he could not help but notice the dualistic nature of this philosophy. Fitzgerald's writing demonstrated that a life spent at the carnival would inevitably lead to bankruptcy. Fitzgerald often worked on multiple short stories simultaneously while writing his novels. Later, these stories were compiled. His relationship and love for his wife Zelda fueled much of his writing. Her diagnosis and hospitalization for schizophrenia in 1930 affected him greatly. In his later years, Fitzgerald worked in Hollywood on movie scripts. His last novel, The Last Tycoon, remained unfinished at the time of his death in 1940 and reflected his Hollywood experiences. THE NOVELS THIS SIDE OF PARADISE THE BEAUTIFUL AND DAMNED THE GREAT GATSBY TENDER IS THE NIGHT THE LOVE OF THE LAST TYCOON THE SHORT STORY COLLECTIONS FLAPPERS AND PHILOSOPHERS TALES FROM THE JAZZ AGE ALL THE SAD YOUNG MEN TAPS AT REVEILLE THE PAT HOBBY STORIES MISCELLANEOUS STORIES THE PLAYS AND SCREENPLAYS THE POETRY THE NON-FICTION THE LETTERS

Legendary money manager Ken Fisher outlines the most common—and costly—mistakes investors make. Small cap stocks are best for all time. Bunk! A trade deficit is bad for markets. Bunk! Stocks can't rise on high unemployment. Bunk! Many investors think they are safest following widely accepted Wall Street wisdom—but much of Wall Street wisdom isn't so wise. In fact, it can be costly bunk. In Debunkery: Learn It, Do It, and Profit From It—Seeing Through Wall Street's Money-Killing Myths, Ken Fisher—named one of the 30 most influential individuals of the last three decades by Investment Advisor magazine—details why so many investors fail to get the long-term results they desire. The short answer is many investors fail to question if what they believe is true—and are therefore blinded by tradition, biases, ideology, or any number of cognitive errors. Your goal as an investor shouldn't be to be error-free—that's impossible. Rather, to be more successful, you should aim to lower your error rate. Debunkery gets you started by debunking 50 common myths—but that's just the beginning. It also gives you the tools you need to continue to do your own debunkery for the rest of your investing career.

100 Things I Love About You - Simple Reasons Why I Love You The biggest problem in any relationship is the lack of proper communication. It is the lack of communication that gives rise to all relationship problems. People in relationships are often unsure of their partner's feelings, feel doubtful, feel underestimated, or ask themselves: Does he really love me? These doubts arise as a result of the partners' lack of proper communication. Modern times are conducive to the 'passing' of partners who, with time, talk less and less about emotions and feelings, and this translates directly into a lack of understanding and problems in mutual communication. To improve communication with your partner and eliminate all of the above-mentioned problems, you should: ✓ speak clearly about your feelings, emotions and beliefs; ✓ clearly express your love and feelings; ✓ speak out loud about your fears. If partners express themselves and their feelings clearly, terms such as love / respect / trust will mean the same to them. (When he says 'I love you' she will know what it means to him. The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. These facts few psychologists will dispute, and their admitted truth must establish for all time the genuineness and dignity of the weirdly horrible tale as a literary form… As may naturally be expected of a form so closely connected with primal emotion, the horror-tale is as old as human thought and speech themselves. H. P. Lovecraft Horror intends to create an eerie and frightening atmosphere for the reader. Prevalent elements include ghosts, demons, vampires, werewolves, ghouls, the Devil, witches, monsters, dystopian and apocalyptic worlds, serial killers, cannibalism, psychopaths, cults, dark magic, Satanism, the macabre, gore, and torture.
