The Twelve Supporting Pillars of the Culture of Life centers on two things: what is needed to produce a civil society, and what is transpiring to bring it to ruin. The problem that currently faces us consists of a broad range of factors. They include the personal and familial, the social and political, the moral and the spiritual, language and literature, and the philosophical and the religious. We are assaulted on all fronts. Therefore, we need to be informed, realistic, resourceful, diligent, and courageous. The rejection of reason goes hand in hand with the rejection of God. The individual has replaced the Deity and reason has been replaced by will. At the same time, this is not a pessimistic book since it emphasizes the fact that the capacity to reason and think about things is still present in the human being. We need to be who we are destined to be: rational human beings who love life and are eager to share it lovingly with others. The first and vital step in reforming society is in the awareness of what is happening around us. This book is dedicated to that proposition, with the fervent hope that it will be of assistance to those readers who are concerned about the cultural crisis in which we are presently engulfed.

Will You Be Complicit, Complacent, or Courageous? In a culture with an ever-narrowing definition of tolerance, Christians can no longer stay silent about the divide between the Bible’s truth and the world’s lies. From bestselling author Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer, No Reason to Hide examines the toxic roots behind the alarming symptoms of a nation in spiritual freefall—and why your faith must empower you to engage rather than hide. As you read, you’ll be equipped to defend your biblical beliefs with confidence and compassion. You’ll also identify how you can respond to the battleground issues of today, including identity-driven social justice ideologies that seek to divide rather than unite cultural attacks on the definitions of sex and gender that turn language into a war progressive pushes within the church that ultimately desecrate the Bible’s teachings A call for believers to standing firm in today’s oppressive world, No Reason to Hide is a rallying reminder that will ready Christians everywhere to have the courage to proclaim Scripture’s truth to a culture in desperate need of what only God can offer.

In All the Evidence You Will Ever Need scientist Paul Baba expounds on numerous areas of evidence that support the concept of a Creator of the universe, the Bible as a document given to mankind by the Creator, and the process that the Bible teaches as the way to eternal life in Heaven. The purpose of the book is to reach non-believers and seekers with a rationale for the gospel. The book will also be useful in college classes, youth groups, study groups, and Sunday School classes. It will be especially important to parents of students who encounter teachers and professors who seek to undermine faith in a Creator. There are key chapters on the problems with evolution, the case for the Bible as God's word, fulfilled prophecy, the basics of Christianity, transformed lives, and a number of other areas of evidence to support faith.

Searching for answers in the midst of the sexual abuse crisis in the church, many blamed the clerical culture. But what exactly is this clerical culture? We may know it when we see it, but how can we 'whether clergy or laypeople 'go about dismantling it and putting in place a new, healthy culture? George Wilson has spent decades working with organizations to help them discover, and often recover, their foundational calling. He is also a Jesuit priest engaged in the lives of congregations. In Clericalism: The Death of Priesthood he brings together both capacities and gives his sense of the challenges facing the church. As members of the church, Wilson maintains, we are all responsible for creating a clerical culture. And we are also responsible for that culture's transformation. Clericalism aids this transformation by helping us examine some underlying attitudes that create and preserve destructive relationships between ordained and laity. After looking at the crisis and establishing where we are now, this book challenges us with concrete suggestions for changing behaviors. We are lay and ordained, but all baptized into the royal priesthood of 1 Peter 2:9, all called to spread the Gospel and do the work of God's love in the world. Ultimately, this is a hopeful book, looking for the restoration of a genuine priesthood, free of clericalism, in which we become truly united in Christ..

The #1 Sunday Times and International Bestseller from 'the most influential public intellectual in the Western world right now' (New York Times) What are the most valuable things that everyone should know? Acclaimed clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson has influenced the modern understanding of personality, and now he has become one of the world's most popular public thinkers, with his lectures on topics from the Bible to romantic relationships to mythology drawing tens of millions of viewers. In an era of unprecedented change and polarizing politics, his frank and refreshing message about the value of individual responsibility and ancient wisdom has resonated around the world. In this book, he provides twelve profound and practical principles for how to live a meaningful life, from setting your house in order before criticising others to comparing yourself to who you were yesterday, not someone else today. Happiness is a pointless goal, he shows us. Instead we must search for meaning, not for its own sake, but as a defence against the suffering that is intrinsic to our existence. Drawing on vivid examples from the author's clinical practice and personal life, cutting edge psychology and philosophy, and lessons from humanity's oldest myths and stories, 12 Rules for Life offers a deeply rewarding antidote to the chaos in our lives: eternal truths applied to our modern problems.

Darkness The world darkens when truth becomes less and less discernible. The truth will make us free, but the darkness that envelops us will produce confusion and chaos. We lack the light by which we can recognize that the darkness is dark and therefore a deprivation. We misname our predicament as "progress" or "liberation". We trade truth, justice, and beauty for diversity, equity, and inclusivity. Philosophy is both the love of wisdom as well as the love of light. As the darkness increases, philosophy wanes. The philosophic enterprise, however, is our road back to a recovery of the light. The capacity to know the truth of things remains within us. It only needs to be rediscovered for the light by which we live, know, and love, to be rekindled. Unreason Unreason results when the will supplants reason. The proper function of the will, however, is to serve reason, not to gain dominion over the person. Irrational behavior is not helpful to anyone. No one wants to be called mindless, though many continue to act mindlessly. Reality presents us with many disagreeable facts. In the face of reality we need an arsenal of virtues, which, collectively, supply us with "character". It is purely sentimental to think that we can live a life without ever being offended, or ever being prevented from achieving what we want. If we want to remain real, we must remain reasonable. Society Communism rejects the supreme importance of the individual; laissez faire capitalism rejects the importance of one's fellow citizen. Democracy rests on the harmony between an individual innate person's value and his obligation to contribute to society. It is the essential responsibility of political leaders to ensure that this balance is maintained. Unfortunately, we witness an appalling lack of leadership. What is critically needed at this hour is a revitalization of Christianity. Although Christianity is presently under attack, it contains precisely what is need for the restoration of democracy: love of neighbor, philosophical realism, reverence for what is good, respect for the beautiful, and a prayerful relationship with God. Humanity The human being is a most mysterious and perplexing character. On the one hand, he is viewed as created in the image and likeness of God. On the other hand, he is regarded as a cosmic accident, a being who has neither value nor meaning. Pride makes us think that we are more important than we really are, while self-abasement lowers our estimation of our true self. Humility is the virtue that allows us to gain a realistic appraisal of our self, not too lofty and not to lamentable. We are made to love and be loved. Peace of mind will continue to elude us as long as we try to achieve something for which we have no innate aptitude. The dictum "Know thyself" should be followed by "Be Thyself". God does not ask of us the impossible. Hope We need "good hope" in our present era when the pandemic and the darkening sky are sources of discouragement and despair. Such a hope requires the qualities of realism, courage, patience, and the willingness to endure difficulties. "Good hope" is contrasted with the many superficial hopes that get us through the day. We hope for good weather, that our home team will win, that we will get a raise, or that we will win the lottery. These hope are little more than wishes. Our hope should be directed toward better things. We hope to be faithful to our friends, to achieve both our earthly and heavenly destinies.

The Meritocracy Trap written by Daniel Markovits and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-10 with Social Science categories.

A revolutionary new argument from eminent Yale Law professor Daniel Markovits attacking the false promise of meritocracy It is an axiom of American life that advantage should be earned through ability and effort. Even as the country divides itself at every turn, the meritocratic ideal – that social and economic rewards should follow achievement rather than breeding – reigns supreme. Both Democrats and Republicans insistently repeat meritocratic notions. Meritocracy cuts to the heart of who we are. It sustains the American dream. But what if, both up and down the social ladder, meritocracy is a sham? Today, meritocracy has become exactly what it was conceived to resist: a mechanism for the concentration and dynastic transmission of wealth and privilege across generations. Upward mobility has become a fantasy, and the embattled middle classes are now more likely to sink into the working poor than to rise into the professional elite. At the same time, meritocracy now ensnares even those who manage to claw their way to the top, requiring rich adults to work with crushing intensity, exploiting their expensive educations in order to extract a return. All this is not the result of deviations or retreats from meritocracy but rather stems directly from meritocracy’s successes. This is the radical argument that Daniel Markovits prosecutes with rare force. Markovits is well placed to expose the sham of meritocracy. Having spent his life at elite universities, he knows from the inside the corrosive system we are trapped within. Markovits also knows that, if we understand that meritocratic inequality produces near-universal harm, we can cure it. When The Meritocracy Trap reveals the inner workings of the meritocratic machine, it also illuminates the first steps outward, towards a new world that might once again afford dignity and prosperity to the American people.
