Die "Operations Research Proceedings 1985" geben eine vollständige Übersicht über die Vorträge, die auf der vierzehnten Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesell schaft für Operations Research in der Zeit vom 11. bis 13. September 1985 an der Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg gehalten wurden. Mehr als 300 Teilnehmer waren der Einladung der DGOR gefolgt, neue methodische Entwicklungslinien und aktuelle Anwendungsverfahren auf den unterschiedlichsten Gebieten des Operations Research miteinander zu diskutieren. Es wurden 112 Fachvorträge gehalten, die nach thematischen Schwerpunkten in 13 Sektionen gegliedert waren. 59 von diesen 112 Fachvorträgen sind in den Proceedings mit einer etwa 8 Seiten umfassenden langfassung enthalten, 53 in einer Kurzfassung von in der Regel einer Seite, auf der die von dem Referenten behandelte Problemstellung dargestellt ist. Dem leser, der aufgrund der lektüre einer Kurzfassung an einer bestimmten Problemstellung besonders interessiert ist, bietet das Verzeichnis der Autoren und Referenten am Ende des Buches die Möglichkeit, sich mit dem jeweiligen Autor unmittelbar in Verbindung zu setzen. Von den 13 Sektionen waren 7 vom Schwerpunkt her eher methodisch orientiert und 6 eher anwendungsorientiert. Bei den anwendungsorientierten Sektionen war die Beteiligung in den Sektionen "Verteidigungsplanung" (10 Vorträge), "Anwen dungsberichte aus der Praxis" (9 Vorträge) und "logistik und Verkehr" (9 Vor träge) besonders groß. Bei den methodisch orientierten Sektionen waren die Sektionen mit besonders großer Beteiligung die Sektionen "Stochastische Ent scheidungsprozesse" (15 Vorträge), "Dynamische Optimierung und Kontrolltheo rie" (13 Vorträge) und "Kombinatorische Optimierung" (8 Vorträge). Beabsichtig ter inhaltlicher Schwerpunkt der Tagung war die anwendungsorientierte Sektion "Verteidigungsplanung" .

Dieses Buch enthält die schriftlichen Ausarbeitungen von Vorträgen, die am 9. Oktober 1986 auf einem Workshop über Reason Maintenance gehalten worden sind. Der Begriff Begründungsverwaltung als Übersetzung von Reason Maintenance soll die Gleichzeitigkeit der Aspekte der Speicherung und Aufbewahrung der Begründungen und der Erhaltung der Gültigkeit von Aussagen auf Grund der gültigen Begründungen ausdrücken. Reason Maintenance ist eine Fortführung und Verallgemeinerung von Truth Maintenance. Truth-Maintenance-Systeme sind Programmsysteme, die Speicher von Aussagen realisieren, die weitgehend nur auf aussagenlogischer Ebene formalisiert sind. Sie verwalten Aussagenmengen und ihre Bewertungen. Annahmen und einfache Konsequenzen aus ihnen werden in einer Weise aufbewahrt, da€ eine widerspruchsfreie Aussagenmenge zu jedem konkreten Zeitpunkt erkennbar ist. Die Technik, mit der dieses Ziel erreicht wird, besteht in der Repräsentation der Beziehungen zwischen den Aussagen und in der Aufbewahrung der Prämissen, Implikationen und Schlu€regeln, die zur Ableitung einer bestimmten Aussage verwendet worden sind. Der Zweck dieser Systeme ist demnach Konsistenzerhaltung durch Begründungsverwaltung. Die vorliegenden Arbeiten repräsentieren den deutschen Wissensstand auf diesem Teilgebiet der Künstlichen Intelligenz unter Betonung des Ansatzes von de Kleer. Damit führt dieser Band den Leser an wesentliche aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse heran.

International cooperation on the health of seafarers began many years ago. As early as 1921, an international convention regarding this matter was presented to govern ments of maritime countries for ratification. The First World Health Assembly, in 1948, recommended that WHO should establish, with the International Labour Of fice, a Joint Committee on the hygiene of seafarers. The first session of this Com mittee, held in 1949, defined the problems affecting the health of seamen and made a number of recommendations. In the opinion of this Joint Committee, the health of seamen called for interna tional attention for a nu mb er of reasons. By the nature of his work, the seafarer is obliged to travel from country to country and is exposed to great variations of cli mate and also to any disease that may be prevalent in the port of call. He may there fore become a carrier of disease, so that the protection of his health is of importance not only to himself and the other members of the crew but also to the populations of other countries he visits. Yet, on account ofthe nature ofhis employment, it is diffi cult to provide the seafarer with the same standard of health care that is gene rally available to other sections of the population.
