Este libro presenta varios textos de gran valor sobre la preparación de actores. Centrado en Lecciones de Mijail Chéjov en el teatro estatal de Lituania, (por primera vez traducidas al castellano), texto fundamental que contiene ejercicios y reflexiones emanados de la propia práctica pedagógica e investigativa del gran actor ruso. El texto proviene de un taller impartido en 1932, antes de emigrar a los Estados Unidos. Se complementa con dos artículos de su alumna María Osipovna Knébel, gran pedagoga e investigadora teatral (que acompañaron la edición rusa de Obras Completas de Mijail Chéjov, 1986): Mijail Chéjov y su herencia artística, donde presenta su llegada al Teatro de Arte de Moscú, la percepción que de Chéjov tuvo Stanislavski y el éxito en el público moscovita de los personajes de viejitos creados por el joven actory Mijail Chéjov, acerca del arte actoral, en el que contextualiza su trabajo dentro del Teatro de Arte de Moscú y la pedagogía teatral en general, sus divergencias con Stanislavski, estableciendo un paralelo entre las dos metodologías respecto a la creación del personaje y la psicotécnica del actor.
