Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 1999 im Fachbereich Raumwissenschaften, Stadt- und Raumplanung, Note: 2,3, Technische Universität Dortmund (Raumplanung), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Stadtzerstörungen des Zweiten Weltkriegs können hinsichtlich Art, Ausmaß und Folgewirkungen als in der Geschichte des deutschen Städtewesens einmalig angesehen werden. Es gab zwar auch in früherer Zeit kriegerische Verwüstungen und Stadtbrände, die jedoch mit Ausnahme des Dreißigjährigen Kriegs, der Zerstörungen regionalen Ausmaßes zur Folge hatte, in der Regel lokal begrenzt blieben. Durch den sich notwendigerweise anschließenden Aufbau kam es in Abhängigkeit von aktuellen architektonischen Modetrends immer auch zu einer Veränderung der städtischen Physiognomie, wobei darüber hinaus vielfach zudem Eingriffe in die Struktur des Stadtgrundrisses erfolgten. Solche Eingriffe in bzw. Veränderungen des Stadtbildes durch den Aufbau in frühen Phasen sind jedoch unvergleichbar mit den Folgewirkungen der Stadtzerstörungen, mit denen der Zweite Weltkrieg nahezu alle Großstädte, die überwiegende Zahl der Mittelstädte und selbst eine beträchtliche Zahl von deutschen Kleinstädten heimsuchte. Die Zerstörungen schafften immerhin die Möglichkeit, vielerorts seit langem in der Planung befindliche und durchgreifende Maßnahmen des Stadtumbaus im Zuge des Aufbaus umzusetzen. Im Rahmen dieser Publikation soll nunmehr in einer Art Gesamtschau der Verlauf des Luftkriegs skizziert werden, nicht zuletzt deshalb, um die regional unterschiedlichen Zerstörungsausmaße zu erklären. Weiterhin beschäftigen wie uns mit den Auswirkungen, die der Luftkrieg auf die nationalsozialistische Stadtplanung hatte, sowie mit Methoden und Problemen der Schadenserfassung währen und nach dem Krieg. Abschließend erfolgt eine regional differenzierte Bilanzierung von Kriegsfolgen hinsichtlich der Wohnungszerstörungen und bevölkerungsgeographischen Aspekte.
