The 2006 edition of UNICEF's annual report focuses on the millions of children who are most in need of access to essential education, health and protection services, but who are also the hardest to reach and often overlooked by current development programmes. These include children living in the poorest countries and most deprived communities within countries, children who face discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity or disability, children caught up in armed conflicts or affected by HIV/AIDS, children who lack a formal identity and who suffer from abuse and exploitation. The report examines the factors which result in their exclusion from current child development programmes and services, and highlights the policy options and actions required to address these challenges, in order to ensure all children benefit from the progress being made to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Este libro muestra cómo se configura el concepto de capital emocional desde las experiencias de padres y madres de niños y niñas con discapacidad. Esta investigación cualitativa con enfoque narrativo-biográfico, entrecruzó argumentos empíricos y teóricos desde lo personal-familiar, la salud y la educación. Como padres y madres, nuestras vivencias respecto a la discapacidad dieron sentido a esta lógica, justo en ese orden: una ruptura ideológica de la normalidad que se vive desde lo personal-familiar, la restauración que se intenta hacer de esa ruptura mediante la confianza en la medicina que todo lo puede solucionar y, finalmente, los intentos de organización de esa ruptura desde los escenarios educativos. En esa confluencia de tensiones comprendemos que la discapacidad existe como un campo de relaciones de poder, en el que advertimos maneras diversas de configurar la discapacidad y diferentes formas sociales de actuar frente a ella. Fue entonces necesario poner en diálogo con padres y madres de niños y niñas con discapacidad conceptos como capital, campo, cuerpo, emoción, en función de dinámicas relacionales desde sus experiencias emocionales consigo mismos, con lo familiar (vínculo marital, relaciones parentales), con el saber médico y con el contexto educativo. Así, el capital emocional se configuró como el conjunto de emociones y experiencias que definen las maneras como las personas se constituyen subjetivamente, inter-actúan e interpretan los acontecimientos. Aunque se expresa subjetivamente, no es posible obtenerlo de manera individual. Necesariamente su acumulación adquiere sentido a partir de la confrontación con las estructuras sociales.
