For many foreign observers, Brazil still conjures up a collage of exotic images, ranging from the camp antics of Carmen Miranda to the bronzed girl (or boy) from Ipanema moving sensually over the white sands of Rio's beaches. Among these tropical fantasies is that of the uninhibited and licentious Brazilian homosexual, who expresses uncontrolled sexuality during wild Carnival festivities and is welcomed by a society that accepts fluid sexual identity. However, in Beyond Carnival, the first sweeping cultural history of male homosexuality in Brazil, James Green shatters these exotic myths and replaces them with a complex picture of the social obstacles that confront Brazilian homosexuals. Ranging from the late nineteenth century to the rise of a politicized gay and lesbian rights movement in the 1970s, Green's study focuses on male homosexual subcultures in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. He uncovers the stories of men coping with arrests and street violence, dealing with family restrictions, and resisting both a hostile medical profession and moralizing influences of the Church. Green also describes how these men have created vibrant subcultures with alternative support networks for maintaining romantic and sexual relationships and for surviving in an intolerant social environment. He then goes on to trace how urban parks, plazas, cinemas, and beaches are appropriated for same-sex erotic encounters, bringing us into the world of street cruising, male hustlers, and cross-dressing prostitutes. Through his creative use of police and medical records, newspapers, literature, newsletters, and extensive interviews, Green has woven a fascinating history, the first of its kind for Latin America, that will set the standard for future works. Esta tese analisa a construção da imagem do imigrante brasileiro no jornalismo televisivo português. O tema trabalhado é enquadrado nas teorias das migrações e nas teorias da construção da imagem telejornalística. O corpus de análise é constituído por 19 peças transmitidas durante o prime-time da RTP1, da SIC e da TVI, veiculadas entre Janeiro de 2004 e Junho de 2006. A identificação deste corpus fundamenta-se em estudos anteriores e envolveu a observação de 160 peças, transmitidas ao longo daqueles 30 meses. A análise incidiu em quatro unidades de registro sobre a representação do imigrante brasileiro no telejornalismo português: homem, mulher, família, e cidadão brasileiro. No trabalho empírico, onde se utilizou metodologias de análise da Imagem, as peças foram transcritas e categorizadas em função de três textos estruturais – o visual, o sonoro e o escrito – de forma a identificar os seus elementos construtivos. Esta metodologia formal e textual tornou possível a visualização de certas tendências de representação dos cidadãos brasileiros imigrados em Portugal. Em relação às unidades de registo convencionadas, conclui-se que existem diferenças estéticas e construtivas sobretudo em relação à representação do género, além de uma forte tendência para a valorização de construções mais «tabloidizantes».

Esta obra trata de uma análise sobre o texto filosófico abordado no Currículo do Estado de São Paulo para o ensino de filosofia. Analisa-se o seu papel, as recomendações para o seu emprego nas aulas e o modo como é incorporado ao material didático – Material de Apoio ao Currículo do Estado de São Paulo (2014). É examinado se a maneira como o texto é proposto nos planos de aula oferece condições para que o professor o utilize de forma adequada e coerente, de modo que o educando possa lê-lo, interpretá-lo e problematizá-lo. Para discutir e aprofundar ainda mais a questão, foi analisado o papel do texto filosófico ao longo da história do ensino de filosofia no Brasil, a fim de compreender seus objetivos e sua aplicação. Além disso, perceber, quando não utilizado, quais os outros recursos empregados. Outro aspecto trabalhado concentrou-se na parte legal, por isso foi examinado o ensino de filosofia e o texto filosófico na perspectiva dos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais do Ensino Médio (PCNEM), das Orientações Educacionais Complementares aos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN+) e das Orientações Curriculares para o Ensino Médio (OCEM).
