This publication reports on the latest trends in the travel behaviour of the residents of the Sydney Statistical Division (see Figure 1) which includes the Sydney metropolitan area, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains. It is based on the data collected in the Household Travel Survey for the years 1997/98 and 1998/99 and looks at the longer term trend by comparisons with the 1991/92 Home Interview Survey (HIS). The rest of this report is in three main sections. Section 2, consists of a table of key transport indicators for Sydney derived from the 1991/92 HIS, and the HTS for 1997/98 and 1998/99. Section 3 presents a summary of Sydney's travel patterns using a series of graphs, together with some discussion. Tables of data from each of the graphs, as well as some more detailed information, form Section 4. The Appendices include a brief description of the methodology used for the HTS, a list of the data items collected in the HTS, and a glossary of terms and acronyms used in this publication.
