Over 700 total pages .... Introduction: Leadership has often been viewed as more of an art than a science. However, the expanding field of neuroscience is confirming that leadership may be more science than art. While the thinking components of the brain have been noticeably evolving along with the pace of technology, the emotional parts are still very primitive, yet play an important role in leadership and behavior. The latest neurological, psychological, and organizational research is converging towards the fact that emotional leadership is the key ingredient to an organization’s performance. Successfully leading in dynamic, complex environments, making wise decisions while facing tremendous resource constraints, avoiding moral and ethical lapses, preventing failures in leadership, building healthy relationships, and fostering resiliency across the workforce is less about the hard skills of cognitive intelligence and more about the soft skills of emotional intelligence. Leaders still need foundational, cognitive skills, but they cannot lead solely from their intellect in today’s interconnected world. Contains the following studies / publications: 1. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE COMPETENCIES AND THE ARMY LEADERSHIP REQUIREMENTS MODEL 2. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LEADER PERFORMANCE 3. THE FAILURE OF SUCCESS: HOW THE BATHSHEBA SYNDROME AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE CONTRIBUTE TO THE DOWNFALL OF ARMY ORGANIZATIONAL-LEVEL LEADER 4. Emotional Intelligence: Advocating for the Softer Side of Leadership 5. Lack of Emotional Intelligence as a Factor in the Relief of US Army Commanders 6. Refinement and Validation of a Military Emotional Intelligence Training Program 7. DEVELOPING A CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE CAPABILITY 8. Protecting Human Rights Defenders At Risk written by Alice M. Nah and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-22 with Political Science categories.

This book assesses the construction, operation and effects of the international protection regime for human rights defenders, which has evolved significantly over the last twenty years in response to the risks people face as they promote and protect human rights. Drawing upon the experiences of human rights defenders who continue to persevere in their activism in Indonesia, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico and Colombia, this edited collection examines the ways in which formal protection mechanisms by state and civil society actors intersect with self-protection measures and informal protection initiatives by families and friends. It highlights that protection practices are most effective when they are designed to address the specific risks that human rights defenders face (which are gendered and intersectional); reflect how defenders understand ‘risk’, ‘security’ and ‘protection’; and are appropriate for the dynamic sociopolitical and legal contexts in which defenders operate. This book proposes ways in which the protection of human rights defenders at risk should be reimagined and practised. This book will be a thought-provoking guide for students and scholars of politics, international relations, law and human rights, as well as to practitioners engaged in the protection of human rights defenders at risk.

A Philosophy Of Visual Metaphor In Contemporary Art written by Mark Staff Brandl and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-02-23 with Philosophy categories.

Metaphor, which allows us to talk about things by comparing them to other things, is one of the most ubiquitous and adaptable features of language and thought. It allows us to clarify meaning, yet also evaluate and transform the ways we think, create and act. While we are alert to metaphor in spoken or written texts, it has, within the visual arts, been critically overlooked. Taking into consideration how metaphors are inventively embodied in the formal, technical, and stylistic aspects of visual artworks, Mark Staff Brandl shows how extensively artists rely on creative metaphor within their work. Exploring the work of a broad variety of artists – including Dawoud Bey, Dan Ramirez, Gaëlle Villedary, Raoul Deal, Sonya Clark, Titus Kaphar, Charles Boetschi, and more– he argues that metaphors are the foundation of visual thought, are chiefly determined by bodily and environmental experiences, and are embodied in artistic form. Visual artistic creation is philosophical thought. By grounding these arguments in the work of philosophers and cultural theorists, including Noël Carroll, Hans Georg Gadamer, and George Lakoff, Brandl shows how important metaphor is to understanding contemporary art. A Philosophy of Visual Metaphor in Contemporary Art takes a neglected feature of the visual arts and shows us what a vital role it plays within them. Bridging theory and practice, and drawing upon a capacious array of examples, this book is essential reading for art historians and practitioners, as well as analytic philosophers working in aesthetics and meaning.

The H Spot written by Jill Filipovic and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-02 with Social Science categories.

What do women want? The same thing men were promised in the Declaration of Independence: happiness, or at least the freedom to pursue it. For women, though, pursuing happiness is a complicated endeavor, and if you head out into America and talk to women one-on-one, as Jill Filipovic has done, you'll see that happiness is indelibly shaped by the constraints of gender, the expectations of feminine sacrifice, and the myriad ways that womanhood itself differs along lines of race, class, location, and identity. In The H-Spot, Filipovic argues that the main obstacle standing in-between women and happiness is a rigged system. In this world of unfinished feminism, men have long been able to "have it all" because of free female labor, while the bar of achievement for women has only gotten higher. Never before have women at every economic level had to work so much (whether it's to be an accomplished white-collar employee or just make ends meet). Never before have the standards of feminine perfection been so high. And never before have the requirements for being a "good mother" been so extreme. If our laws and policies made women's happiness and fulfillment a goal in and of itself, Filipovic contends, many of our country's most contentious political issues -- from reproductive rights to equal pay to welfare spending -- would swiftly be resolved. Filipovic argues that it is more important than ever to prioritize women's happiness-and that doing so will make men's lives better, too. Here, she provides an outline for a feminist movement we all need and a blueprint for how policy, laws, and society can deliver on the promise of the pursuit of happiness for all.
