Cruising the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) is an experience of a lifetime. It's challenging, it's exciting, it'll test your mettle and you'll see new things and meet new people. You will experience at least one heart stopping moment a day! You will get more opportunities for such "excitement" spending nine months a year on a boat, especially cruising the shallows of the ICW. However, there are many things to consider to get ready and once on the way, there are over 140 hazards that you ought to know about that we encountered on our Spring of 2015 trip north. This book contains charts of the hazards and how to navigate them safely along with things you may not have thought of like how to get your house ready for a nine month absence or for that matter how to get yourself ready! It's the information age and the volume of data out there is staggering but what's useful? I'll cover the latest apps and then give some tips we've learned over the years to avoid hard knocks and make life easier. So relax and read how to get ready for the adventure you've looked forward to all your life. Bob423

I'm known as Bob423 along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and this September will be my tenth trip down the ICW to Key West. This edition consists of only the charts for those who are experienced ICW Cruisers and already know all the basics and desire no additional input on getting ready for the trip south or in outfitting your boat or apps to use. Also not included are the chapters on Basic ICW Knowledge and ICW University where I go more in depth on topics of interest to cruisers. All charts have been updated and redone with Aqua Map's rendition of the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) survey charts that include my track through the over 100 shallow areas in a blue dotted line and in many cases, a GPX route too so you will know exactly how to safely proceed. Each of the 12 legs of the trip south to Key West is now introduced with a wide area chart showing the hazards ahead with mile markers for planning a day's cruise. GPX routes and tracks have been greatly expanded as further navigation aids. If you buy the paperback book the eBook will be free again this year. It has all the active links so you don't have to look up any of the recommendations I reference in the paperback. I will also publish a page by page list of active links on my blog site at fleetwing.blogsite.com if for some reason you don't want to download the eBook. Thanks for considering the purchase of my guide. The links have been left in blue to show they can be accessed in the eBook with a tap. Please leave a review on Amazon.com. All reviews are helpful to other boaters considering a trip down the ICW.

I'm known as Bob423 along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and this September will be my tenth trip down the ICW to Key West. I've made every mistake in the book except sink the boat. Why not learn from my mishaps and avoid all the potential misadventures on your own cruise? My guide covers what I've learned about cruising the ICW over the past ten years and how to avoid the mud in shallow areas. What's new in the 2019 Edition:- All charts have been updated and redone with Aqua Map's rendition of the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) survey charts that include my track through the over 100 shallow areas in a blue dotted line and in many cases, a GPX route too so you will know exactly how to safely proceed. - Each of the 12 legs of the trip south to Key West is now introduced with a wide area chart showing the hazards ahead with mile markers for planning a day's cruise. - I've added two new chapters: Basic Knowledge on the ICW that all cruisers should know and further study, if desired, in the ICW University chapter covering nine topics to enhance your ICW experience.- GPX routes and tracks have been greatly expanded as further navigation aids. - All sections on cruising resources and recommendations have been updated. There are lots of new products out there that will ease your way south, why not take advantage of them?- If you buy the paperback book the eBook will be free again this year. It has all the active links so you don't have to look up any of the recommendations I reference in the paperback. From Puget Sound to Ketchikan, AK, including the west coast of Vancouver Island and now Haida Gwaii, this popular annual guide provides complete information about marinas, marine parks and fuel docks, U.S./Canada border crossings and Customs, VHF radio requirements, and more. For each cruising area, you'll find a list of charts needed, overviews of the area, and detailed listings of moorage and fuel facilities. There's text on anchorages, Local Knowledge, the "flavor" of each area, some history, and comments on things to see and do. Lots of maps and photos, too. (The Waggoner contains 150 maps and 375 photos.) The Waggoner's maps, showing the coverage of each chapter, the harbors, and individual marinas, are one of its most popular features. They show approach routes and facilities, and take much of the anxiety out of entering a harbor for the first time. Maps of individual marinas detail the entrances and markers, shoal areas, dock layout, and location of the guest moorage and key facilities. More than a catalog of listings and maps, the Waggoner is praised as a "good read." The Waggoner is full of navigation tips, weather lore, anchoring ideas, and local knowledge. Serious sidebar features and descriptions explain tide-rips, reversing tidal rapids, stern-tie lines, shellfish toxins, and more. Lighter pieces and descriptions include the "lost-in-the-'50s" flavor of downtown Olympia; the proper attitude while waiting at the Ballard Locks ("it takes as long as it takes, and that's how it is"); and the discovery of a genuine, fur-bearing trout (very rare) in Prince Rupert. These stories are intended to entertain but also instruct, giving an "insider's look" at hazards, joys, and just plain facts of Northwest boating. The Waggoner includes "Green Pages" - reference pages with conversion tables, Morse code, Beaufort Wind Scale, VHF channels for Washington and B.C. waters. The Waggoner also contains telephone listings for U.S. and Canadian Customs, towing and emergency services.
