Trilogy On Faith And Happiness written by Saint Augustine (of Hippo) and has been published by New City Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-30 with Religion categories.

Augustine of Hippo, one of the most prolific writers of late antiquity, known primarily for four masterpieces: The Confessions, Teaching Christianity, The City of God, and The Trinity, composed a vast body of work comprised of more than five million words. He composed his earliest works in the form of dialogues shortly before his baptism in 387. The next decade of his life, a relatively unproductive transitional period, was followed by an explosion that averaged, in modern terms, a 300-page book per year. This early trilogy, The Happy Life, The Advantage of Believing, and Faith in the Unseen, demonstrates Augustine's fundamental concern to link Christian faith with the human quest for happiness. These three essential works, which illustrate his dictum that faith is necessary for understanding, constitute a magnificent introduction to Augustinian spirituality. Trilogy on Faith and Happiness reveals Augustine's insight into fundamental existential questions and his conviction that human fulfillment can be found only in the incarnation of Jesus, the Word and Wisdom of God. It will prove especially useful for spiritual reading and for students of Christian spirituality.

This blessed book explains the meaning of true happiness, which is the ultimate goal of humans in this world. Everyone is chasing happiness, but few are fully aware of what it is and where it comes from. Happiness is not a destination, but a journey that requires certain inner qualities and the right state of mind in order to experience and reap the rewards. It is not sold as a commodity and cannot be bought, but a person can only experience it by carefully improving his mindset, character, and by following a plan of action. For indeed, those who do not plan will not be able to achieve the desired results. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Those who are among us (destined to be) from people of happiness [in the Hereafter] (will find that it is easy) do the deeds of people of happiness..." [Sahih al-Bukhari, No. 4948]. Shaykh Nasir al-Saadi mentions twenty-one ways to achieve the goal of finding happiness, while driving away its opposites - sadness, grief and anxiety. Whoever follows these ways will find the path to happiness and success in this life and the next, In-sha-Allah.

Everyone looks externally to find contentment, we think material possessions will unlock our happiness. A Monk's Guide to Happiness explains how and why we need to look within, and connect to our true essence, in order to find peace. Everyone has the potential to be happy, after all, we're all 'hardwired' for happiness. But how do we get there? By meditating. Most books on happiness are concerned with answering, in their diverse ways, a basic question: how should I live? Such books assume, however, that the path to happiness lies entirely within one’s control. Happiness is simply a matter of doing certain things and refraining from doing certain other things. This book, however, takes a different view. It is that happiness is not always within our control but, instead, prey to the attitudes and actions of others. Following Jean-Paul Sartre’s aphorism, “hell is other people”, the broad theme of this book is that “unhappiness is other people”. In the language of economics, “other” people, through their attitudes and actions, create externalities – often negative - which serve to make “us” unhappy. The instruments for creating such externalities are intolerance and feelings of envy/superiority. This book expands on this theme in respect of three areas: religion, money, and prejudice. It is fair to say the existing (un)happiness literature, particularly in economics, does not take many of these externalities into account. Instead, the focus is, firstly, on identifying the factors, internal to oneself, that contribute to personal happiness and, secondly, on measuring the relative strength of their contribution. By contrast, an analysis of the externalities that people impose upon others lies at the heart of this book. Economics, Religion and Happiness will primarily appeal to students, academics and researchers across economics, psychology, philosophy, and sociology, and will also find an audience among those interested in exploring issues related to happiness in greater depth.
