Ce livre retrace au jour le jour les découvertes faites lors de leur séjour par les deux écrivains : monuments, sites, mais aussi le quotidien des Japonais, leurs divertissements et leurs tâches. Quarante-cinq photos illustrent leur récit. À PROPOS DE L'AUTEURE Tomiko Asabuki est née le 27 février 1917 à Tokyo et morte le 2 septembre 2005. Elle est journaliste, écrivaine et traductrice, spécialiste de la littérature française. Elle est traductrice d'auteurs français, tels que Simone de Beauvoir, Françoise Sagan, André Maurois, aimait la France et y vivait la moitié de l'année avec son mari français. Issue d'une famille aristocratique, Tomiko se marie à 17 ans et débarque à Paris où elle assiste à une représentation théâtrale avec Louis Jouvet en 1937. C'est pour elle le déclic : La France – la langue française - sera sa seconde patrie. Tomiko rentre au Japon afin de divorcer, et revient en France aussi sec. D'abord dans une institution pour jeunes filles, puis à Paris où elle rencontre Vildrac, Duhamel, Rolland... En 1945, après être rentrée au Japon, s'y être à nouveau mariée, elle divorce, puis retourne à Paris en 1950. Pour subvenir à ses besoins, elle se met à écrire pour des journaux japonais, puis à traduire : la première sera "Je suis couturier" de Christian Dior, puis "Bonjour tristesse" ; elle poursuit avec Camus, Maurois, d'autres Sagan, avant sa grande rencontre avec Simone de Beauvoir et Jean-Paul Sartre, et dont elle a été une amie fidèle jusqu'à leur mort. En 1966, elle fait un voyage au Japon avec eux et sera leur interprète ; eux qui l'encouragent à se raconter, à écrire. En 1977, Tomiko Asabuki publie un premier roman. En japonais le livre s'appelle l'"Autre côté de l'amour". Il fut traduit en français en 1992 aux éditions Côté femmes, sous le titre d'"Asako" (traducteur Marc Mécréant). Poussée par son ami poète Richard Chambon, elle s'est décidée, trente ans après, à raconter leur voyage au Japon. "Vingt-huit jours au Japon avec Jean-Paul Sartre et Simone de Beauvoir" ("Sartre, Beauvoir to no 28 nichi kan Nihon") est paru en 1995. Source : article de J.-B. Over the last fifty years, the music of Jōji Yuasa has attained the zenith of international musical standards. A study of this great Japanese composer is long overdue. Persuasive and captivating, less “easy” than that of his lifetime friend Tōru Takemitsu, Yuasa’s music has also been a model for many young composers, both from Japan and further afield, thanks to the long period he spent teaching composition at the University of California, San Diego (1981–1994). This book serves to illuminate aspects of Yuasa’s work, intricately linked to deep, native roots which tend to be more opaque for western (and other) ears. It focusses on various aspects of Yuasa’s music as well as on the social, anthropological, aesthetic and critical contexts that have informed his compositional practice in the context of the postwar Japanese musical world. In a continual interior dialogue which includes Jean-Paul Sartre and Daisetzu T. Suzuki, Matsuo Bashō and William Faulkner, Henry Miller and Motokiyo Zeami, Yuasa’s avant-garde aesthetic project, western in conception, encounters the productive thought of an unambiguously Japanese aesthetic, i.e. that of Zen. An analysis of Yuasa’s main works will illustrate and complete the picture of Yuasa’s world. Yuasa’s works are placed at the centre of the most original of creative forces in the contemporary music world – a place where, for Yuasa, “in the same idea of creativity, there has to be an avant-garde component”.

Anfang der 1920er Jahre, ausgelöst durch das Aufkommen einer sozialistischen Bewegung nach der russischen Oktoberrevolution, entstand in Japan ein Diskurs über die sozialpolitische Rolle des Intellektuellen, der sich bis in die 1970er Jahre hineinzog. Angeführt wurde er von marxistisch und humanistisch orientierten Literaturkritikern und Schriftstellern, die sich Fragen nach der sozialen Verantwortung der Literatur und der diesbezüglichen Rolle der Intelligenz stellten. Der japanische Intellektuellenbegriff ist im Rahmen dieses Diskurses vor dem geschichtlichen und gesellschaftspolitischen Kontext sukzessiv neu geformt worden. Er ist Zeugnis einer steten Auseinandersetzung, gespiegelt in differenzierten Begriffen, was ein Intellektueller sei, und welchen Platz dieser in der Gesellschaft einnehmen solle. Anhand einer Diskursanalyse repräsentativer Debatten zwischen 1920 und 1970 unter Einbezugnahme von Bourdieus Theorie des literarischen Feldes wird die Entwicklung, die Rolle und die Selbstwahrnehmung des modernen japanischen Intellektuellen in der Zwischen- und Nachkriegszeit des 20. Jahrhunderts gezeichnet und ein Profil des Schriftstellers als Intellektueller definiert.
