Pada akhir tahun 2022, dunia dikejutkan oleh peluncuran publik ChatGPT, suatu program Artificial Intelligence (AI) generatif yang terus meningkat kapabilitasnya sehingga dapat menyaingi kemampuan kognitif manusia, antara lain bisa membuat (bukan mencari) uraian tingkat sarjana dan pasca sarjana pada disiplin ilmu sosial yang setara dengan kemampuan para mahasiswa, bahkan lebih unggul. AI generatif ini telah membuat para pelopor dan pencipta AI menjadi kuatir dengan kemampuan AI, yang apabila tidak diregulasi dengan baik, bisa menimbulkan ancaman bagi eksistensi manusia. Kemampuan ChatGPT tersebut juga menggemparkan dunia pendidikan. Para pendidik menjadi kuatir bahwa tugas-tugas yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa dengan tujuan mahasiswa dapat mensintesis dan menciptakan suatu tulisan baru, ternyata dibuat oleh ChatGPT tanpa dapat dideteksi. Namun kekuatiran saya sebagai dosen lebih daripada itu. Alih-alih menguatirkan sistem penilaian mahasiswa di kelas, saya lebih menguatirkan bahwa ChatGPT dapat mengalahkan kemampuan para mahasiswa saya di dunia kerja di masa mendatang. Oleh karena itu saya merenung dan mencoba menuangkan suatu tulisan untuk melihat bagaimana transformasi digital ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk peningkatan kualitas pendidikan di negara kita, khususnya untuk generasi muda yang makin menghadapi substitusi AI dalam segala jenis pekerjaan yang menjadi mata penghasilan untuk melangsungkan kehidupan.
