Poetry has always been a big part of my life but never as much as it is at present. I try to write a poem each day and to relate the images that are in my mind at that moment. The images can be about anything. I am often awakened with two random lines in my head that I must write down or I will forget them when I wake in the morn. This has been an occurrence for the past ten years or so. My latest influences have been about love, friendship, compassion, caring and forgiveness. One of my friends described me as a walking piece of performing art. I like it. I am going to continue to write poetry with a wanton wave of passion.

The Fire Of Joy written by Clive James and has been published by Picador this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-29 with Poetry categories.

Essentially, this is Clive James' desert island poems: a selection of his favourite verse and a personal commentary on each. The Fire of Joy was the final book Clive James completed before his death in 2019. It takes its title from the French expression Feu de Joie, which refers to a military celebration when all the riflemen of a regiment fire one shot after another in a wave of continuous sound: it is a reminder that the regiment’s collective power relies on the individual, and vice versa. In this book, James has chosen a succession of English poems, exploding in sequence from Chaucer to the present day; they tell the story of someone writing something wonderful, and someone else coming along, reading it, and feeling impelled to write something even more wonderful. After a lifetime, these are the poems James found so good that he remembered them despite himself. In offering them to you, the main purpose of this book is to provide ammunition that will satisfy your urge to discover, learn and declaim verse. As well as his selection of poems, James offers a commentary on each: whether this is a biographical, historical or critical introduction to the poem, or a more personal anecdote about the role a particular poem has played in James’s life, these mini essays provide the joy of James’s enthusiasm and the benefit of his knowledge. Full of the flashing fires of poems you will not be able to forget, this book will ignite your passion and leave you with a contagious crackle rattling in your ears.

I began writing poetry post-retirement several years ago, inspired by a wonderful teacher and poet, Catherine Mahoney, to whose memory one of my poems is dedicated. I am not a poet; I write poems as others garden flowers - for the sheer beauty and surprise of it - surprise in the sense of you never know what you're going to get. I seek no plaudits for my poems, and am too crotchety for criticism - though surely in need of it for improvement. I tender this small book of poems to family and friends - old and new - in gratitude for the lovely times we have spent together, and hope you derive some pleasure from reading them.

Reviews "Stephen Roxborough, combination sardonic intellectual, Lucille Ball and Peter Pan east of Eden, is one of the finest poets working today. His new collection exposes the bright, quirky eyes and ears of a visual artist with a mastery of words. A remarkable book. Look for him in the holding cell for the maximally aware." Bart Baxter MTV Poetry Slam Winner, Seattle Poet Populist "In the form of postmodern Buddhist meditations or mantras, these poems are aboutsimple human happiness. Created out of a pop sensibility and in a pop modality, they're fashioned to free minds and shuffle off some of the weight of contemporary life. They cheerfully bend and blend the clich?'s and methods of contemporary consumer culture, but send it in a fresh direction. The pleasures here are wise and simple." Jamie Reid poet, activist, publisher, co-founder of TISH "Rox has a light touch while reaching deeply inside what makes the universe tick, gentle while grappling with the dead ends of Today. This book knocks on your door and wants tocome in and make you laugh and sigh and think." World Literature Today Editor’s Pick “Enchanting. . . . The Poetic Species is a wonderful read in its entirety, short yet infinitely simulating.” —MARIA POPOVA, Brain Pickings In this shimmering conversation (the outgrowth of an event co-sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History and Poets House), Edward O. Wilson, renowned scientist and proponent of “consilience” or the unity of knowledge, finds an ardent interlocutor in Robert Hass, whose credo as United States poet laureate was “imagination makes communities.” As they explore the many ways that poetry and science enhance each other, they travel from anthills to ancient Egypt and to the heights and depths of human potential. A testament to how science and the arts can join forces to educate and inspire, this book is also a passionate plea for conservation of all the planet’s species. Edward O. Wilson, a biologist, naturalist, and bestselling author, has received more than 100 awards from around the world, including the Pulitzer Prize. A professor emeritus at Harvard University, he lives in Lexington, Massachusetts. Robert Hass’ poetry is rooted in the landscapes of his native northern California. He has been awarded the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, the National Book Critics Circle Award (twice), the Pulitzer Prize, and the National Book Award. He is a professor of English at University of California-Berkeley.
