Methodological Approaches To Societies In Transformation written by Yasmine Berriane and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-21 with Social Science categories.
This open access book provides methodological devices and analytical frameworks for the study of societies in transformation. It explores a central paradox in the study of change: making sense of change requires long-term perspectives on societal transformations and on the different ways people experience social change, whereas the research carried out to study change is necessarily limited to a relatively short space of time. This volume offers a range of methodological responses to this challenge by paying attention to the complex entanglement of qualitative research and the metanarratives generally used to account for change. Each chapter is based on a concrete case study from different parts of the world and tackles a diversity of topics, analytical approaches, and data collection methods. The contributors’ innovative solutions provide valuable tools and techniques for all those interested in the study of change.

Making Sense Of Learning written by Norman Reid and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-26 with Education categories.
This textbook brings together findings from global research on teaching and learning, with an emphasis on secondary and higher education. The book is unique in that the content is selected in an original way and its presentation reflects the most recent research evidence related to understanding. The book covers and presents themes that are based tightly on worldwide research evidence, scrupulously avoiding opinion or any dependence on the personal experience of the authors. The book starts by reflecting on educational research itself. The four chapters that follow relate the story of the research that shows how all humans learn and the variations within that framework. These chapters offer a tight framework that underpins much of the rest of the text. The next four chapters look at the way school curricula are organised and how the performance of learners can be assessed. They summarise the research evidence related to thinking skills and consider the importance of practical teaching. This is followed by two chapters that draw from the extensive social psychology research on attitude development as it applies in education, and then by two chapters that summarise the research related to major issues of controversy: the performativity agenda and the issue of quality. One chapter looks at the place of statistics in education. The next two chapters look at the evidence that can support or undermine many typical education beliefs, or myths and mirages. Finally, the last chapter brings it all together and looks into the future, pointing to some areas where future research is likely to be helpful, based on current knowledge.

Making Sense Of Moral Panics written by Sarah Wright Monod and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-06 with Social Science categories.
This book offers a comprehensive framework for the study of moral panics. It provides an up-to-date overview of the history and development of the concept of panic, and discusses the key criticisms and debates that have stemmed from its use over the last four decades. While investigating the critical connections between crime reporting and panic development, Wright Monod also highlights the overall importance of social context, and social theory, for understanding episodes of moral panic. Two case studies – one on murdering teens, and the other on gangs and guns – are explored to demonstrate the efficacy of the framework, and five research phases for panic study are extensively analysed. Drawing on the nature of sensationalist media coverage, and considering the impact of new media ecosystems in panic development, this innovative study considers the shape of the field of moral panic scholarship today and, crucially, the directions in which its study is heading. This is an informed and original book which will appeal to scholars of risk, deviance, and criminal justice.

After Aquarius Dawned written by Judy Kutulas and has been published by UNC Press Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-16 with History categories.
In this book, Judy Kutulas complicates the common view that the 1970s were a time of counterrevolution against the radical activities and attitudes of the previous decade. Instead, Kutulas argues that the experiences and attitudes that were radical in the 1960s were becoming part of mainstream culture in the 1970s, as sexual freedom, gender equality, and more complex notions of identity, work, and family were normalized through popular culture — television, movies, music, political causes, and the emergence of new communities. Seemingly mundane things like watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show, listening to Carole King songs, donning Birkenstock sandals, or reading Roots were actually critical in shaping Americans’ perceptions of themselves, their families, and their relation to authority. Even as these cultural shifts eventually gave way to a backlash of political and economic conservatism, Kutulas shows that what critics perceive as the narcissism of the 1970s was actually the next logical step in a longer process of assimilating 1960s values like individuality and diversity into everyday life. Exploring such issues as feminism, sexuality, and race, Kutulas demonstrates how popular culture helped many Americans make sense of key transformations in U.S. economics, society, politics, and culture in the late twentieth century.
