The setting: Rome, Italy. The era: the 1950s to the 1970s. The subject: everyone who was anyone in the international jet-set. The theme: hedonism, glamour and paparazzi. It was a time when to be snapped in fashionable Italy, to be a pin-up and to have a mutually beneficial relationship with the paparazzi were the main objectives for a certain crowd. If today the term "paparazzi" carries associations of scandal-mongering, voyeurism and right-to-privacy issues, "A Flash of Art" harkens back to the golden age of a once glamorous trade, when things were more black and white, as it were. Photographs by 22 Italian paparazzi, including Tazio Secchiaroli, Lino Nanni, Elio Sorci, Mario Fabbri and Marcello Geppetti, recall a Felliniesque era. There are a few harbingers of the time to come: pictures of celebrities caught in compromising and/or embarrassing situations. One set of images depicts a riled Anita Ekberg threatening another photographer with a bow and arrow as he tries to catch her arriving home after a night out; another shows Jane Mansfield lying in the street having been accosted by "ballerina" Alma del Rio. But the posed portraits of Hollywood icons Brigitte Bardot and Omar Sharif, the endless shots of gorgeous ladies in sparkly gowns, vamping for the camera, and the dapper men in dark suits and darker glasses are the real showstoppers.

"Over two decades of contemporary art as seen through the pages of Flash Art, the controversial, contradictory art magazine which has influenced both cultural taste and artistic development in recent years. Flash art set the standard for art magazines world-wide, and has been continually imitated for its concept and style. From Arte Povera, Process Art, Conceptual Art, Performance, and Post-Conceptualism to Pictures, the Transavantgarde, the East Village, and Neo-Conceptualism, Flash Art has functioned as both forum and catalyst for current art trends. A leading American magazine has recently called Flash Art "a reliable barometer of the zeitgeist." This anthology presents the most memorable articles and issues from Flash Art's 21 years, documenting the magazine's policy and trajectory throughout the course of contemporary culture. This policy has been consistently concerned with capturing the new and the radical, thus transforming them, inevitably, into the event." -- Provided by publisher

In February 2014, an international colony of young, freewheeling and footloose artists held a group exhibition that would stand as a pivotal turning point for the future of George Town, Penang. It was an exhibition destined to make the artists household names, infamous for boldly swinging into parties and installing challenging art onto Southeast Asian walls. It would also spell the return of George Town to a worldwide destination, a city relegated to backwater ashes rising to heights shared by heritage, culture, and cosmopolitanism. In this personal exposé, James H. Springer documents the lives and times of artists during the period of 2010 to 2016, telling the story of George Town’s gentrification through their own influential experiences. Through childhood memories, artistic inspirations, fluctuating relationships and artwork – learn how these young artists lay a new path for George Town going into unpredictable times. During what could arguably be described as Malaysia’s most troubling political era, Springer describes how the flourishing of art in George Town gave its population a much needed respite from federal government tomfoolery. In addition, George Town’s rising art scene gave Penang State a leg up in economic prosperity, creating an unheard of level of opportunity that would either be capitalised on or squandered. Malaysia’s Canvas lays bare the reality of being an artist in a developing country and the change it can inspire, with no holds barred.

Happy Hour written by Marlowe Granados and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-07 with Fiction categories.

With the verve and bite of Ottessa Moshfegh and the barbed charm of Nancy Mitford, Marlowe Granados’s stunning debut brilliantly captures a summer of striving in New York City. Isa Epley, all of twenty-one years old, is already wise enough to understand that the purpose of life is the pursuit of pleasure. She arrives in New York with her newly blond best friend looking for adventure. They have little money, but that’s hardly going to stop them. By day, the girls sell clothes on a market stall, pinching pennies for their Bed-Stuy sublet and bodega lunches. By night, they weave between Brooklyn, the Upper East Side, and the Hamptons among a rotating cast of celebrities, artists, Internet entrepreneurs, stuffy intellectuals, and bad-mannered grifters. Resources run ever tighter and the strain tests their friendship as they try to convert social capital into something more lasting than precarious gigs as au pairs, nightclub hostesses, paid audience members, and aspiring foot fetish models. Through it all, Isa’s bold, beguiling voice captures the precise thrill of cultivating a life of glamour and intrigue as she juggles paying her dues with skipping out on the bill. Happy Hour is a novel about getting by and having fun in a system that wants you to do neither.

Judy Chicago written by Alex Gartenfeld and has been published by Prestel this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Art categories.

"Groundbreaking and provocative, Judy Chicago's iconic sculptures, paintings, and installations helped bridge the gap between feminism and art during the 1960s, 70s, and beyond. Using imagery inspired by the female body and references to historical female figures, Chicago forged a new, women-focused visual language that continues to influence the aesthetics of feminist art today. This book traces Chicago's career from her emergence on the Los Angeles art scene in the 1960s through her mature work in the 1990s. Featuring illustrations of six distinct bodies of works, this book includes Chicago's masterpiece The Dinner Party as well as other lesser-known works. With informative essays that situate Chicago's oeuvre in the context of contemporary Southern Californian art and scholarship that reflects Chicago's current work, this comprehensive book provides a breathtaking look at one of the quintessential figures of American feminist art" --
