Todays church has large conferences and outreaches around the world. Television studios broadcast the Gospel, and yet Christianity must mean more than listening to a 30-minute sermon once a week. To be powerful and effective, the body of Christ must yearn to work the works of God. (Christian)

A Living Sacrifice is a comprehensive guide for men who are discerning God's call. It serves as both an introduction to religious life as well as a guide for discerning vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. With clear language, engaging examples, and solid theology, the book tackles the big questions: "Should I date while discerning?" "Should I be a diocesan priest or a religious brother?" "What community should I join?" "What should I expect during formation?" "What is religious life anyway?" "How do I know for sure if I'm being called?" A Living Sacrifice includes an overview of most forms of religious life in the U.S., as well as contributions from priests and brothers in many different communities. While authored by Dominican priests, the book is deliberately written for men discerning any religious community. A Living Sacrifice offers a solid alternative to "cyber discernment" by addressing men's most common questions in a single volume. Perfect to bring into the chapel to spark a heart-to-heart conversation with Christ. Co-author Fr. Benedict Croell has been called the most successful religious vocation director in America, with over 100 men entering his community during his time of service. Co-author Fr. Andrew Hofer oversaw the initial formation of new brothers, and offers both real-life insights and a solid theological foundation. Together, they amass their considerable experience to provide reliable advice during every stage of vocational discernment. Foreword by Abbot Primate Gregory J. Polan, O.S.B. Nihil Obstat, Rev. Basil Cole, O.P. Imprimatur, Rev. Msgr. Charles V. Antonicelli, V.G. “I commend Father Benedict Croell, O.P. and Father Andrew Hofer, O.P. on the publication of A Living Sacrifice." - Robert Cardinal Sarah

God Walk written by Mark Buchanan and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-14 with Religion categories.

Drawing on Jesus's example of walking, bestselling author Mark Buchanan explores one of the oldest spiritual practices of our faith. What happens when we literally walk out our Christian life? We discover the joy of traveling at the speed of our soul. We often act as if faith is only about the mind. But what about our bodies? What does our physical being have to do with our spiritual life? When the Bible exhorts us to walk in the light, or walk by faith, or walk in truth, it means these things literally as much as figuratively. The Christian faith always involves walking out, as again and again we find the holy in the ordinary. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, and then he was off. The most obvious thing about Jesus's method of discipleship, in fact, is that he walked and invited others to walk with him. Jesus is always "on the way," "arriving," "leaving," "approaching," "coming upon." It's in the walking that his disciples are taught, formed, tested, empowered, and released. Part theology, part history, part field guide, God Walk explores walking as spiritual formation, walking as healing, walking as exercise, walking as prayer, walking as pilgrimage, suffering, friendship, and attentiveness. It is a book about being alongside the God who, incarnate in Jesus, turns to us as he passes by--always on foot--and says simply, "Come, follow me." With practical insight and biblical reflections told in his distinct voice, Buchanan provides specific walking exercises so you can immediately implement the practice of going "God speed." Whether you are walking around the neighborhood or hiking in the mountains, walking offers the potential to awaken your life with Christ as it revives body and soul.

The exodus of God's chosen Israel is the greatest story of redemption in the Old Testament. In more than 120 Christocentric, devotional meditations on the book of Exodus, Valerius Herberger shows his fervent belief that Jesus Christ is the center of every part of Scripture. Herberger does not seek to give an academic analysis or a grammatical exposition of each passage, but rather to emphasize the life and work of the Son of God. In these meditations the reader will find spiritual and practical applications for every Christian today. Intertwining the words of Scripture and the poetry of the Church's hymnody with his own pastoral insight, Herberger teaches the faith and preaches the truth of salvation in Jesus.

Jesus Saves - even on the job In October of 1981, the National Training Center at Ft. Irwin, Ca. was opened as a training facility for US Army units. The work force was civilian, government contract employees. This work force was involved in, among other evil and detestable practices, drug use, alcohol use and sex while on the job. It was a playground for Satan and his followers. This is the last place anyone would expect to hear anything about God. But, God soon began a work that would touch the hearts and lives of the extremely Godless people in this place. God turned the Track and Wheel Shops at Ft. Irwin into a mission field. Starting with one man (not the author), God began a revival in the work place that saw many get saved and go on to various ministries and the mission field. This movement eventually grew into a weekly organized Bible Study that is still thriving and seeing lives changed. This book tells the true story of how Jesus came into this place of work and saved people from their despicable, evil lifestyles of sin. Although this story is told from the experience of one person, it could be told multiple times by a number of people with different experiences and testimonies. The accounts of the work which God did there over the years would fill volumes and would contain endless testimonies of how the Lord worked in the lives of all those involved or those whose lives were touched by this work. When I arrived at Ft. Irwin in July, 1982, I was a drunk who neglected my family and only cared for my own evil desires. By the end of 1984 I was saved and living free from alcohol and was not only walking with Jesus but on my way to active ministry work at the job site and in the Church. There are no exaggerations in this book, only the truth of what Jesus did in the lives of me and those around me and beyond. It is a testimony to what the Lord can do if we are open to His work in our lives. Do you take Jesus to work with you? All too often, Christians leave Jesus at home when they go to work. An undercover Christian is unable to reach anyone for Jesus. We need to be ambassadors for Jesus and take the gospel message to the work site and watch as the Lord saves souls. That is what happened at Ft. Irwin, in the Track and Wheel Shops. We were all truly amazed at the work He was able to do simply because we were obedient to His calling. This work of God, which exists among the evil lifestyles of this workforce, truly stands out like a rose in the desert. Take Jesus to work, you will be amazed at His good work habits.

God At Work written by Gene Edward Veith Jr. and has been published by Crossway this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-02 with Religion categories.

When you understand it properly, the doctrine of vocation—"doing everything for God's glory"—is not a platitude or an outdated notion. This principle that we vaguely apply to our lives and our work is actually the key to Christian ethics, to influencing our culture for Christ, and to infusing our ordinary, everyday lives with the presence of God. For when we realize that the "mundane" activities that consume most of our time are "God's hiding places," our perspective changes. Culture expert Gene Veith unpacks the biblical, Reformation teaching about the doctrine of vocation, emphasizing not what we should specifically do with our time or what careers we are called to, but what God does in and through our callings—even within the home. In each task He has given us—in our workplaces and families, our churches and society—God Himself is at work. Veith guides you to discover God's purpose and calling in those seemingly ordinary areas by providing you with a spiritual framework for thinking about such issues and for acting upon them with a changed perspective.

Meditations on the Psalms helping women to express their feelings and grow in their faith. Many of us suppress our feelings because we’re worried they are ungodly. Others of us are so led by our emotions that we let them dominate everything, including our faith. In these honest, personal and uplifting meditations on 24 selected psalms, Courtney Reissig looks at emotions we all experience, ranging from shame, anxiety, and anger through to gratitude, hope, and joy. For each, she shows how the psalms give us permission to acknowledge how we feel before God, and how they can help us to use those feelings productively and faithfully. This inspiring book will give women a language to cry out to God in order to help them process their feelings, as well as help them to grow in their faith. Can be used as a daily devotion.
