A Concise History Of Modern Painting written by Herbert Read and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1968 with Art, Modern categories.

Comprehensive, authoritative, highly readable and generously illustrated, Herbert Read's text has been rightly acknowledged as "by far the best introduction to the subject" (Alan Bowness) and "throughout, lively and closely packed" (Hugh Casson). Here is modern painting from its roots in the work of Cezanne, through Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism and Dada in the early decades of the twentieth century and on to Abstract Expressionism in the 1950s. The works of Frank Stella, Richard Hamilton, Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg, amongst many others, are discussed and analyzed by Caroline Tisdall and William Feaver in a lively final chapter that brings us up to present times and points to exciting new developments.

The Meanings Of Modern Art written by John Russell and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1981 with Art categories.

"This book is based on two beliefs," says John Russell in his preface "One is that in art, as in the sciences, ours is one of the big centuries. The other is that the history of art, if properly set out, is the history of everything." It is in this spirit that the book deals with the major movements in art and the major artists since the 1860s, and it also interweaves the central historical and cultural events and themes of the modern period. The Meanings of Modern Art is the work of a critic who has lived with modern art for almost half a century and has been close to many of those who have created the masterworks of our time. The book contains a choice of illustrations as exacting as it is generous, and the 328 illustrations in color and in black and white are integrated with the text. The history of art as presented here is truly "the history of everything." In the words of the College Art Association, which in 1978 gave John Russell its Mather Award for art criticism, "John Russell can illuminate everything from the stones of Egypt to the bricks of Carl Andre."--Publisher's description.

Visualizing The Nineteenth Century Home written by Anca I. Lasc and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-14 with categories.

The nineteenth century - the Era of the Interior - witnessed the steady displacement of art from the ceilings, walls, and floors of aristocratic and religious interiors to the everyday spaces of bourgeois households, subject to their own enhanced ornamentation. Following the 1863 Salon des refuses, the French State began to channel mediocre painters into the decorative arts. England, too, launched an extensive reform of the decorative arts, resulting in more and more artists engaged in the production and design of complete interiors. America soon followed. Present art historical scholarship - still indebted to a modernist discourse that sees cultural progress to be synonymous with the removal of ornament from both utilitarian objects and architectural spaces - has not yet acknowledged the importance of the decorative arts in the myriad interior spaces of the 1800s. Nor has mainstream art history reckoned with the importance of the interior in nineteenth-century life and thought. Aimed at an interdisciplinary audience, including art and design historians, historians of the modern interior, interior designers, visual culture theorists, and scholars of nineteenth-century material culture, this collection of essays studies the modern interior in new ways. The volume addresses the double nature of the modern interior as both space and image, blurring the boundaries between arts and crafts, decoration and high art, two-dimensional and three-dimensional design, trompe-l'oeil effects and spatial practices. In so doing, it redefines the modern interior and its objects as essential components of modern art.
