Em 2008, cursando o último ano de jornalismo na Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul, me preparava para o temível Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso. Só sabia que abordaria algum assunto ligado ao Pantanal do MS. O destino tratou de me apresentar ao livro-reportagem O Gosto da Guerra , de José Hamilton Ribeiro. Na obra o repórter descreve todos os detalhes do episódio em que, tragicamente, perdeu uma perna após pisar em uma mina terrestre cobrindo a Guerra do Vietnã. Estava decidido qual seria o modelo e o tema. Só faltava todo o resto. Após pesquisa bibliográfica descobri que quase nada havia sido publicado sobre a vida dos peões de boiadeiro. Aproveitei que meus avós trabalhavam como capataz e cozinheira na fazenda Corixão (conhecida fazenda do Pantanal da Nhecolândia), para conseguir vaga em uma comitiva. Em meio a toda aquela poeira branca do Pantanal, comecei minha jornada. Não sei se era repórter que sabia cavalgar, ou se era peão que sabia escrever.

A Base da Moralidade oferece o exame mais completo de Schopenhauer de temas éticos tradicionais e articula uma forma descritiva de ética que contradiz as teorias prescritivas racionalmente baseadas. A partir de sua polêmica contra a ética do dever de Kant, Schopenhauer antecipa os críticos contemporâneos da filosofia moral. Argumentando que a compaixão forma a base da moralidade, ele esboça uma perspectiva sobre ética na qual paixão e desejo correspondem a diferentes personagens morais, comportamentos e visões de mundo. Em conclusão, Schopenhauer define sua metafísica da moral, empregando o idealismo transcendental de Kant para ilustrar tanto a interconectividade do ser quanto a afinidade de sua ética com o pensamento oriental. "Após considerações preliminares, em parte para mostrar a dificuldade do assunto, em parte para limpar o terreno (Parte I.), o tratado abre com uma crítica penetrante da Base Ética de Kant, do Princípio Principal de seu sistema e de suas formas derivadas. (Parte II, Capítulos I.-VI.) [4] A conclusão de Schopenhauer é que o Imperativo Categórico é uma teia muito habilmente tecida, mas na realidade nada mais que a velha base teológica disfarçada, sendo esta última o indispensável, embora invisível, prendedor de roupa para o primeiro; e que o tour de main de Kant de deduzir sua Teologia Moral da Ética é como inverter uma pirâmide. A teoria da Consciência é discutida a seguir (Capítulo VII). O elemento semi-sobrenatural que Kant introduziu sob a forma altamente dramática de um tribunal de justiça realizando uma sessão secreta no peito é examinado e eliminado; e Consciência é definida como o conhecimento que temos de nós mesmos por meio de nossos atos."

No book has ever presented a selection of writings of anarchists from the Portuguese?speaking world to an English?speaking audience. In The Luso?Anarchist Reader, writings by feminist radicals such as Maria Lacerda de Moura and anarchist communists such as Neno Vasco are made available in English for the first time. Researchers and activists interested in achieving a more comprehensive understanding of people's movements could certainly stand to benefit from exposure to these texts. Groups such as the Anarchist Federation of Rio de Janeiro are organizing in both urban and rural Brazil, sometimes working as part of a larger umbrella organization known as Brazilian Anarchist Coordination or CAB coordinating the efforts of various anarchist associations. Anarchists participated in the massive 2013 protests in Brazil, protests that brought together millions of people to speak out against corruption and for a variety of social causes. Anarchists are active in anti?austerity protests in Portugal against the European troika. Given the visibility of anarchism in the Portuguese?speaking world, Brazil in particular, the need to understand the roots of this anarchist tradition is especially salient. Anarchism in the Portuguese?speaking world during the early twentieth century brought together immigrants, people of African and indigenous descent, and feminists to forge a solidarity?based alliance for change.
