If consecrated life wants to be relevant in Asia and responsive to the needs of Asia, then a contextualized and integrated religious formation is imperative. To have a contextualized and integrated religious formation is part and parcel of the renewal of consecrated life in its on-going search for new ways of expressing its meaning within a given culture. Such renewal would not be authentic unless it is truly grounded in the present context and realities of Asia. Therefore, this study, "A Contextualized and Integrated Novitiate Formation Program of the Order of St. Camillus in the Philippines," attempts to revitalize the existing Camillian novitiate formation program and process in the country. Such venture takes into consideration the present demands and needs of the Camillian formation in the Philippines and the current realities, thrusts and challenges of the consecrated life in Asia which serve as the locus in and from which the novitiate formation program is based. Furthermore, such novitiate formation program highlights the indispensable importance of the three dimensions of formation in Asia which are equally necessary in the holistic formation of the formandi. These dimensions serve as the tripod of an integrated Camillian novitiate formation. The challenge and necessity of a contextualized and integrated religious formation in Asia today is indeed fundamental. If we could only address such basic demand, then we can humbly say that we are forming and molding our future religious in consonance with the thrust of the Church in Asia to be of service to life among our Asian people in the third millenium.

Formation in religious life aims to help the religious person to live in an intense union with God and to serve the Church's mission, as the apostolic exhortation Vita Consecrata instructs: "The primary objective of the formation is to prepare people for the total consecration of themselves to God in the following of Christ, at the service of the Church's mission," (Vita Consecrata, no. 65) To reach this aim, the religious person needs an adequate model to practice his vocation in the initial stage of formation and to live it out in his all life. Therefore, this study, "A Proposed Pre-Novitiate Formation Program Based on an Integral Approach for the Order of Friars Minor in Vietnam" is an attempt to bring about the integral approach which can respond to the delicate and complex process of religious formation. The integral approach proposes the process of integrating the three basic dimensions which interact in the life of religious person, such as the human, the spiritual and the charismatic. These dimensions complete and assist each other to develop the person as a human being, a believer and a consecrated person. The integral approach formation leads the religious person to the real identity and will make him in conformity to Christ.

The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.

Thousands of men and women were executed for incompatible religious views in sixteenth-century Europe. The meaning and significance of those deaths are studied here comparatively for the first time, providing a compelling argument for the importance of martyrdom as both a window onto religious sensibilities and a crucial component in the formation of divergent Christian traditions and identities. Brad S. Gregory explores Protestant, Catholic, and Anabaptist martyrs in a sustained fashion, addressing the similarities and differences in their self-understanding. He traces the processes and impact of their memorialization by co-believers, and he reconstructs the arguments of the ecclesiastical and civil authorities responsible for their deaths. In addition, he assesses the controversy over the meaning of executions for competing views of Christian truth, and the intractable dispute over the distinction between true and false martyrs. He employs a wide range of sources, including pamphlets, martyrologies, theological and devotional treatises, sermons, songs, woodcuts and engravings, correspondence, and legal records. Reconstructing religious motivation, conviction, and behavior in early modern Europe, Gregory shows us the shifting perspectives of authorities willing to kill, martyrs willing to die, martyrologists eager to memorialize, and controversialists keen to dispute.
