Trustworthy information about career assessment instruments and their value for career counseling is difficult to obtain. This text contains information and reviews of a wide range of assessment instruments. The decisions as to what instruments to include for review were based on input from an advisory committee, a review of the literature and of publisher catalogues, and the results of a survey of users. The principles underlying the decisions to select instruments for review included selecting previously reviewed instrument that have undergone extensive revisions or update, new instruments that appear to have promise of extensive use, instruments that could be used by employers to make hiring or advancement decisions, and instruments with proven utility for persons with disabilities of disadvantages. Fifty-two instruments in forty-nine test reviews comprise the heart of this volume. These are divided into six categories: Comprehensive Aptitude/Achievement and Companion Measures; Interest; Values and Satisfaction; Career Development/Maturity; Personality; and Instruments for Disabled and Disadvantaged Populations. Reviews begin with publisher-provided information, followed by a brief critical review of the instrument's strengths and limitations. Also provided is practical information which potential users can refer to in order to gauge the usefulness of an instrument. (RJM)

Assessment In Counseling written by Albert Bullard Hood and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Psychology categories.

Assessment has always played an important role in counseling. This book provides information about the various psychological assessment procedures that are relevant for practicing counselors. The text deals with the use of tests that are most often employed by counselors and it includes case studies. Its purpose is to help counselors become better consumers and interpreters of psychological and educational tests and assessment procedures. It emphasizes the selection, interpretation, and communication of psychological test results and also details the importance of integrating test results with other information about the client. It is not designed to be a text book or desk manual on the various tests themselves. The first four chapters introduce the reader to basic concepts in psychological assessment and to the statistical knowledge needed to select and interpret tests. Chapters 5 through 15 constitute the bulk of the book. Here, over 100 tests and other assessment measures are examined. The assessments are divided into three categories: cognitive, career and life planning, and personality. In chapters 16 through 18, professional practices and considerations are explored, including analyses of cultural bias, communication of test results, and ethical and social issues in testing. (Contains roughly 500 references and a comprehensive index.) (RJM)

Designed to help readers apply career development theories to their work with career counseling clients, Career Theory and Practice: Learning Through Case Studies links major career development and choice theories to a fictional case client. Authors Jane L. Swanson and Nadya A. Fouad use this case study approach throughout the book to provide an integrative thread that illustrates similarities and differences between the featured theories. The Third Edition has been updated and substantially expanded to be a primary text for a graduate course in Career Development and Counseling. “Jane L. Swanson and Nadya A. Fouad do a masterful job of bringing theory to life through the lived stories of actual career clients. I very much appreciated the book’s format, the examples, the discussion questions, and the richly developed case examples.” —Mary J. Heppner, University of Missouri, Columbia, commenting on the First Edition “The case study method is very effective. Students can see firsthand how the theories are interpreted and applied. Often they get a better understanding of their own lives and career history.” —Anne Zachmeyer, Rochester Institute of Technology “Theory discussion is complete and usable for students; the quality of the text is strong.” —Meredith J. Drew, Centenary College
