'A Curious Narrative - Imaginings, Memories, Contemplation' (2020). Welcome to my first published work. The book is a selection of short and longer stories. Horror, fantasy, science fiction, historical and life writing. I have also taken the liberty of trying my hand at poetry and prose. In among all this are random words of wisdom and occasional tweets. There is a piece of writing for each day of 2020. I'm not sure what the category the book would fall into. Blog, diary, journal or a little of all three. I hope though that it's what it say's on the tin. A curious account of my take on things. With contemplative thoughts, memories and a selection of stories that spring out of an often over active imagination.I thought a little explanation of how the book came to be might be useful. I've tried many times to write 'the novel' that everyone is supposed to have in them. It never happened. I always lost heart and all my notes ended up in the trash. In recent years I have found myself with more time than I had previously. I knew what I wanted to do with it. I have ever since I was a child and discovered the wonderful world of make believe inside books. I wanted to be a writer. This has been a journey that I have found fun, I love to play with words. Sitting down each day to write has in some ways helped to change my life. I hope this book is an enjoyable read and I'm glad that we are heading off into 2020 together. Meandering through the pages of my 'Curious Narrative'.

The Curious Thing Poems written by Sandra Lim and has been published by W. W. Norton & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-14 with Poetry categories.

In this gorgeous third collection, Sandra Lim investigates desire, sexuality, and dream with sinewy intelligence and a startling freshness. Truthful, sensuous, and intellectually relentless, the poems in The Curious Thing are compelling meditations on love, art making, solitude, female fate, and both the mundane and serious principles of life. Sandra Lim’s poetry displays stinging wit and a tough-minded approach to her own experiences: She speaks with Jean Rhys about beauty, encounters the dark loneliness that can exist inside a relationship, and discovers a coiled anger on a hot summer day. An extended poem sequence slyly revolves the meanings of finding oneself astray in midlife. A steely strength courses through the volume’s myriad discoveries—Lim’s lucidity and tenderness form a striking complement to her remarkable metaphors and the emotional clamor of her material. Animated by a sense of reckoning and a piercing inwardness, these anti-sentimental poems nevertheless celebrate the passionate and empathetic subjective life.

A young woman is called to Paris to settle the final affairs of her father who has been on a multi-month visit. He had said to her just prior to his departure that he was going to "perhaps write, certainly gather images, and probably regale myself, and I hope, the world with daily posts to my blog." But something went awry. A few months into the sojourn her father became a missing person. Then he became a "more than 50% certain" corpse found floating in the Seine. Morganna went to Paris. She had not read any of her father's blog posts. In the apartment, with occasionally little to do, Morganna began to read the blog. A completely off-center tale began to emerge. The more she read the stranger became the story. Then she discovered the old journal her father referenced in his posts. Reading that journal, in juxtaposition with the blog, a strange story unfolded. If one took that story at face value it told of the recommencement of a love story spanning millennia.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A modern classic—both poignant and funny—about a boy with autism who sets out to solve the murder of a neighbor's dog and discovers unexpected truths about himself and the world. “Disorienting and reorienting the reader to devastating effect.... Suspenseful and harrowing.” —The New York Times Book Review Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow. This improbable story of Christopher's quest to investigate the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog makes for one of the most captivating, unusual, and widely heralded novels in recent years.

This thesis proposes that the ancient Greek novels theorize their readers from within themselves. The novels self-consciously promote and construct a reader who is curious, or polypragmôn, and lead this reader towards a recognition of that fact. The reader becomes aware of his or her experience of reading as a process. Drawing on Plutarch's suggestion that the best way to turn curiosity into a force for good is to turn it on oneself, this thesis puts forward the idea that the novels lead a curious reader to engage with his or her encounter with the text, to identify him or herself as curious, and in so doing come to a position of self-analysis. Attention is drawn to the experience of reading, and the lessons that can be learnt from it, by the embedding of narratives within the novels. Embedded or partial narratives can suggest alternative storylines and encourage the curious reader to pry and collaborate with the narrator. The experience of interior space maps the reader's encounter with the novel, constructing him or her as curious as s/he is encouraged to peep through gaps in doors, follow the narrator through doors, and think about his or her status as voyeur and eavesdropper. Deceptive narratives lead the reader to follow suggested storylines and to interrogate the text to try to discover the 'truth' that may lie behind the narrative. Finally, the presence of female characters incites the curious reader to find out what s/he can about them, pushing the narrative to its limit. In going through this process of interrogating the text and actively striving to find out more by reading between the lines, the reader becomes aware of reading as a process, and of his or her curiosity, thus becoming able to analyse him or herself. The novels thus promote a theory of how their readers approach them.

One of the most successful entertainment figures of his time, Robert Ripley’s life is the stuff of a classic American fairy tale. Bucktoothed and hampered by shyness, Ripley turned his sense of being an outsider into an appreciation of the weird and wonderful. He sold his first cartoon to LIFE magazine at eighteen, but it was his wildly popular ‘Believe It or Not!’ radio shows that won him international fame, and spurred him on to search the globe’s farthest corners for bizarre facts, human curiosities and shocking phenomena. Ripley delighted in making preposterous declarations that somehow turned out to be true – such as that Charles Lindburgh was only the sixty-seventh man to fly across the Atlantic or that ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ was not the USA’s national anthem. And he demanded respect for those who were labelled ‘eccentrics’ or ‘freaks’ – whether it be E. L. Blystone, who wrote 2,871 alphabet letters on a grain of rice, or the man who could swallow his own nose. By the 1930s, Ripley possessed a wide fortune, a private yacht and a huge mansion stocked with such oddities as shrunken heads and medieval torture devices. His pioneering firsts in print, radio and television tapped into something deep in the American consciousness – a taste for the titillating and exotic, and a fascination with the fastest, biggest, wackiest and weirdest – and ensured a worldwide legacy that continues today. This compelling biography portrays a man who was dedicated to exalting the strange and unusual – but who may have been the most amazing oddity of all.
