On a freezing October morning, Detective Inspector Frank Keane is called to the scene of a crime on Liverpool's shoreline. The body of what looks like a man, brutally tortured and burned, has been tied to a pole on the beach. With very little evidence to go on, Keane and his partner, DS Emily Harris, rely on their gut feeling that this murder is gang-related and their investigation takes them, once again, into the murky underworld of organised crime. Over in Australia, ex-Liverpool Police detective Menno Koopman - Frank's former boss - is enjoying his retirement. He has no plans to ever return to England but when the body on the beach turns out to be his son, Stevie - whom he only ever met once as a baby - he knows he has to go back and seek justice for his horrific murder. But there's a fine line between justice and revenge...

By Merseyside standards it's been some time since a decent corpse arrived on his patch, but now, on a bone-cold October morning, Detective Inspector Frank Keane's wait is over. The son of Keane's old boss, the legendary DI Menno Koopman, has been discovered dead twelve thousand miles from his Australian home, lashed to a scaffolding pole on Liverpool's bleak shoreline. It's the start of a vicious cycle of violence spanning half the globe. For Koopman, who turned his back on a thirty-year career in the city to live the quiet life in northern New South Wales, the death of a son he never knew means a return to England and the past he'd left behind. Koopman has not been forgotten in his old hunting ground -- not by his former colleagues, and not by the enemies waiting for him. As the body count rises in Liverpool and Australia, Keane and Koopman's search for the killer becomes a fight for survival.

A childhood growing up in Newport, Kentucky, also known as "Sin City USA" , taught Frank Cheek that the first punch is the winning punch most of the time. He spent half his time with the "good" kids who played sports and half his time with the "so-called hoods" who were always in the middle of trouble. His dad loved work and discipline and his mom loved sports. He found himself at the crossroads after graduating from high school. He knew the only future in Newport for him would center around trouble and violence. So he joined the Marine Corps. Sports, hard work, humor, and occasionally throwing the first punch got him through the Corps. It wasn't until the Lord got a hold of him that Frank could let go of the need to throw the first punch. But he held onto sports, hard work and humor to forge a coaching career at the high school and college level that has placed him in five Halls of Fame. His long career at Humboldt State included 22 years coaching wrestling and 25 years coaching softball. Fifteen of his teams finished in the nation's Top 10. His path from a "so-called hood" to a multiple national champion is a story of how a life dedicated to Jesus is a life of redemption, grace, humility and victory.

In 1944, while World War II still raged, a husband and wife left the comforts of America to move to Africa. Headhunters and cannibals roamed the jungles of "the dark continent," as the land was still called then, and witchcraft and juju held people in the grip of fear and superstition. But dawn was about to break. In the midst of chaos, a story of love, dedication, commitment, hope, and encouragement began to unfold. This is the true life story of two people who dared to trust the God who called them. As you enter these pages, be prepared-you will find joy and tears, tension and suspense, raw terror, and good followed by evil of the darkest kind. You will walk with this couple as they were forced to make searing decisions in the presence of starving children. You'll be by their side through the dark night when evil was prepared to kill. But most important, you will see the hand of a loving Heavenly Father guiding them every step of the way.
