Existe grande descrença com a política na atualidade, sobretudo a institucional, particularmente com as instâncias de representação do poder e do Estado. Esse fenômeno não é apenas brasileiro, o que não exclui a gravidade de seus problemas e características específicas. A crise da política configura-se como um sinal dos tempos. Contudo, a política não envolve apenas o âmbito institucional. Constitui uma visão de mundo comum compartilhado. Nesse sentido, todas as pessoas estão envolvidas com a política. Vista como uma esfera de valor, possibilita uma crítica pertinente da ação do Estado. Este livro aborda a esfera da política que extrapola a dimensão institucional. Reúne artigos escritos no período de 2006 a 2014 e divide-se em duas partes: a primeira, “Política e esfera pública”, é constituída por trabalhos baseados no pensamento político de Hannah Arendt, a maior parte deles apresentados em encontros acadêmicos arendtianos; a segunda, “Esfera política: reflexões sobre o Brasil e a América Latina”, trata de temas referentes ao problema das gerações, ideologias, autoritarismo e democracia, com foco no Brasil e na América Latina. A esfera da política abrange tanto o espaço da disputa pelo poder quanto a esfera pública geral, constituída de processos de formação da opinião pública. Compreende a política como uma ação que diz respeito ao mundo no qual se vive e do qual se faz parte.

La presente obra analiza, desde el punto de vista teórico y práctico, la problemática que presenta la comunicación de los gobiernos de coalición. No en vano, el fenómeno coalicional ha ido adquiriendo un interés creciente, especialmente tras los cambios experimentados por el sistema de partidos y la irrupción de gobiernos de signo plural. This collection represents a tool to broaden and deepen our geographical, institutional, and historical understanding of the term totalitarianism. Is totalitarianism only found in ‘other’ societies? In recent decades there has been an exponential increase in large hydroelectric plants in Brazil, especially in the Amazon region. These large hydraulic structures impact the environment and the lives of people living in the places where they settle and require a special type of water governance. The dictatorial regime (1964-1985) created a "standard" for the construction of these great structures, through an institutional and legal framework, which benefited the Brazilian business elite but also, through the creation of a popular imagination, which shows itself lasting progress on the country's progress and development. The suspension of security, the fragility of institutional environmental structures, the disrespect for indigenous reserves, the lack of clarity about the concept of "affected population" and the non-payment of fair compensation were identified as one of the main challenges for a democratic water governance in the country. In the late 1970s, the Dam-Affected Movement (MAB) began its organization and is also studied in this research. The study is an important and insightful academic contribution to the understanding of the main bottlenecks of effective water governance in Brazil.

In this thought-provoking book, Paulo Ravecca presents a series of interlocking studies on the politics of political science in the Americas.
