Glen Cove, the only city located on Long Island's Gold Coast, has long been reinventing itself. After World War II, the farms and estates in the area gave way to suburban development. Modern advancements like the zoom lens, the dimmer switch, and X-ray technologies were all developed within the city limits, while factories on the creek supplied the world with carbon paper, typewriter ribbons, and graphic arts film and cameras. Albert Einstein, Nikita Khrushchev, and the Kennedy families stayed in the community, and stars of stage and screen performed about town. In 1968, Glen Cove celebrated its tricentennial. It was followed by urban renewal and the rebuilding of the old downtown. In the final years of the 20th century, the industrial era ended, and under the auspices of Mayor Thomas Suozzi, environmental cleanup and waterfront revitalization began.

Excerpt from An Address Delivered at Glen Cove, at the Celebration of the Second Centennial Anniversary of the Settlement of That Village From this time must be dated the first settlement of our thriving village. The 24th day of May next will be the two hundredth anniversary. "Let us call a meeting some time in April next, and see if the day cannot be passed in appropriate exercises of some kind." The subject, thus introduced, was further discussed in the paper and by the citizens generally, and a public meeting was called on the 15th of April, 1868, for the purpose of making arrangements for a proper celebration of the two hundredth anniversary of the settlement of Glen Cove, signed by Sam'l M. Titus, Isaac Coles, Wm. M. Weeks, Willet Weeks, David A. Valentine, Jno. T. Valentine, J. K. Milnor, Samuel Frost, R. M. Bowne, James Titus, Ellwood Valentine. In accordance with the above call several meetings were held, at which the following committees were chosen: On the Address - Isaac Coles, Elias J.Beach, W. M. Weeks, and Jas. B. Pearsall.
