Strategic geo graphy, especially in relation to sea power, is not a subject which the average British citizen has been trained to regard with intelligent interest. His lack of acquaintance with Ireland's history, and the fact that her foreign relations have long been merged with those of the neighbouring island, tend further to obscure his realisation of the strategic importance of Ireland.
