"...an exciting fun-filled ride of a lifetime. Where the first book was more serious, the second is filled with sassy women and good humor. The first book is an introduction to Jude's world and his family of Immortals, but the second book is an action-packed adventure filled with time travel and people from myth and legend. I was so caught up in the book that I did not want to put it down. Ms. Lewis writes a story that flows effortlessly from the pages, creating a rich and fulfilling reading experience." Delene Vrey for Reader's Favorite For a time, they remained hidden. For a time, they remained as legends. Until it was not enough to only live. Jude, the vampire king, just wanted to live out his life with his new bride. Go on their honeymoon, read the paper every Sunday morning over coffee and beignets, bury himself in the comfort of his wife’s arms. Is that too much to ask? They say life is what happens while you’re making other plans, and now Jude is coming to terms with two highly uncomfortable truths: the world is nothing as he’s known it to be, and nothing will ever the be the same again. Because while he’s been on a personal quest to save history, an ancient and paranormal war has been simmering beneath his nose to wipe out his family and the vampire kind in general. Now, like it or not, Jude is forced to step into his destiny as leader, king and the prophesied Warrior. With the help of the People of Wudge, along with history’s immortal heroes, Jude and his family will begin to discover their true purpose – and just exactly how nightmares can become reality. Continuing where A New Queen left off, join our band of immortal misfits as they travel the world in search of the keys to defeat the supernatural army rising to destroy them. Part historical fiction, part speculative fiction, and part paranormal fiction, take a deeper dive to discover the stories behind Marie, Ludwig, the People of Wudge and the Ancient Impieties! What if… everything you knew about history was a lie? What if… it was all connected? *Please note: This book picks up directly where Book 1 left off, and there is a cliffhanger.* "...what also impressed me about this superb creation was its emotional resonance and the level of realism that’s interwoven by the presence of real history and powerful characterization. There was also a great deal of humor, pathos, intrigue, and mystery, not least in the utterly charming dialogue and razor-sharp wit, which characterized each individually wonderfully and moved the plot along at a suitably action-packed pace." K.C. Finn for Reader's Favorite Book 1 - A New Queen Book 2 - Legend & Lore

Vampires explores the diverse myths and legends and their impact upon popular culture and the possible explanations behind such phenomena. Part of the Oxford People series, the book also investigates the lives of real-life individuals who have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of blood, drawing on the vampiric tradition for their inspiration. Vampire legends go back centuries, taking root in the Gothic forests of Transylvania. Over time, the vampire has transformed from a vile re-animated corpse, bloated with blood, into a charming immortal that is cursed to live outside of society. From Count Dracula to Edward Cullen, for centuries we have been enthralled by the mysterious legends in horror fiction that surround these dangerous creatures. Vampires rarely have been more popular than they are today, although the Victorians could certainly give us a run for our money. Pale-skinned, dark-cloaked, garlic-hating—the folklore is crawling with memorable images that share one thing in common: their lust for blood. This book examines the vampire myth from all angles: from its genesis in folklore, to offshoots of blood-thirsty creatures, and eventually to its status today as one of the most iconic figures in popular culture. We will try to find out how this strange creature, who came into being centuries ago, transformed through gothic imagination from a hideous monster into a suave villain. This book creates a beautiful addition to anyone interested in the paranormal, and a great gift for gothic readers.

Since the publication of John Polidori's The Vampyre (1819), the vampire has been a mainstay of Western culture, appearing consistently in literature, art, music (notably opera), film, television, graphic novels and popular culture in general. Even before its entrance into the realm of arts and letters in the early nineteenth century, the vampire was a feared creature of Eastern European folklore and legend, rising from the grave at night to consume its living loved ones and neighbors, often converting them at the same time into fellow vampires. A major question exists within vampire scholarship: to what extent is this creature a product of European cultural forms, or is the vampire indeed a universal, perhaps even archetypal figure? In this collection of sixteen original essays, the contributors shed light on this question. One essay traces the origins of the legend to the early medieval Norse draugr, an "undead" creature who reflects the underpinnings of Dracula, the latter first appearing as a vampire in Anglo-Irish Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula. In addition to these investigations of the Western mythic, literary and historic traditions, other essays in this volume move outside Europe to explore vampire figures in Native American and Mesoamerican myth and ritual, as well as the existence of similar vampiric traditions in Japanese, Russian and Latin American art, theatre, literature, film, and other cultural productions. The female vampire looms large, beginning with the Sumerian goddess Lilith, including the nineteenth-century Carmilla, and moving to vampiresses in twentieth-century film, literature, and television series. Scientific explanations for vampires and werewolves constitute another section of the book, including eighteenth-century accounts of unearthing, decapitation and cremation of suspected vampires in Eastern Europe. The vampire's beauty, attainment of immortality and eternal youth are all suggested as reasons for its continued success in contemporary popular culture.

Dracula, the blood-thirsty Transylvanian who terrorized England, was a character in an 1897 horror novel. However, the author, Bram Stoker, based his infamous creature on a real-life prince from the 1400s named Vlad III. Though Vlad wasn't a vampire, he was known for some very gory exploits. Legends of vampires stretch back even further than this. Thrilled readers will devour this legend, its possible sources, and details about its contribution to popular culture. Spooky photographs and illustrations set the mood and enhance the spine-tingling text.
