This is a self published book about my life living with severe panic attacks. The story starts in 1981 when my attacks started and goes through parts of my life up until I cured myself in 2009. This book talks about my panic attacks while being homeless, having my boys, getting a job and finally finding a cure. I wrote this book because I know how many people are out there struggling with the same exact thing I went through and I am hoping through my story, I can help everyone cure themselves of panic attacks just like I did. I suffered for over 27 years with having daily panic attacks. It is a suffering like no other. We are all so much more capable than we realize. We don't have to believe what we are told. We don't have to believe that everything we think is true. We can change what we tell ourselves. We can create a new story a new belief and it's pretty amazing that our brains have that capability regardless of what we have gone through in our lives. Changing the way we perceive something is the single most important element in curing whatever emotional ailment we have. In this book I will teach you what I did to cure my panic disorder for good. No drugs, no gimmicks just simple mind over matter thinking. The exercise I will teach you is a very scary process, one that you may want to quit several times, but if you can muster up the strength to follow through with this exercise, I promise it will be worth it in the end. It may take one time doing this, it may take several times, but all we have is time. Do not put a deadline on your progress. Keep up with your cognitive words. Use them every single time you have a panic attack and I promise you, it will work. It will sink into your amygdala and soon your brain will create a new reaction to anxiety which will set you free from fear. You will have your life back. Isn't that worth fighting for?

In this thesis, I examine how the emergence of a homeless encampment in Maple Ridge, British Columbia in 2017 produced a reaction that I argue was the result of a moral panic. I seek to understand how a homeless encampment, as a hyper visible, centralized, and politically active hub for a marginalized community contributed to the sense of urgency around homelessness. I draw upon moral panic scholarship including theories around risk, neoliberal rationality, and the attending hybrid moral configurations produced by both to account for the hyper emotional reaction to homelessness in Maple Ridge. I situate this panic within the development of neoliberal disciplinary mechanisms that compel individuals to internalize ways of being that reimagine their relationship to the state and implore them to manage the conduct of others accordingly. Finally, I argue that this event was produced by a latent anxiety around economic precarity within middle class suburban communities.

Wandering through the streets of developing cities, these poorest of the poor have no place to go. More and more, these city developments are not simply accepted passively; rather, resistance by organized homeless groups--civil protests, squatting, and legal advocacy--spread as conditions of everyday life deteriorate for the very poor. Out of Place: Homeless Mobilizations, Subcities, and Contested Landscapes details the development of two organized homeless resistances in two different cities. From the redevelopment protesters and squatting activities of the Student-Homeless Alliance in San Jose to the squatter camps of Tranquility City in Chicago, the differences and similarities between both groups are highlighted within the context of city redevelopment policies.
