Hippie Come Home is the account of Steve Drake's life journey from hippie to pastor. The son of a Christian plumber and a waitress mother, Steve grew up as a youngster with very little self-esteem. With little tutelage from his parents, he scored poorly in school and set a pattern for failure that would follow him until his early twenties.Having abandoned the faith of his family, Steve's life spiraled into a declining road to nowhere. His father later told him, “Son, I used to lie in bed with your mother at night and say, 'Evelyn, that boy will never make it; he'll never make it.'” In the aftermath of a devastating night, God offered Steve a second chance. From that point onward, Steve began to grasp his new identity in Christ and recognize that all things are possible through Him. Understanding that his life had meaning and purpose, he charted a new course that led to Bible college and two seminary degrees, followed by pastorates in four states and teaching at a leading seminary to his current responsibilities at LifeWay Christian Resources.Hippie Come Home will help you understand how God's strength is perfected through our weakness. If you question whether there is anything about your life that is commendable and can be used by God, this book is for you.

This book is a practical step-by-step guide for church planters and their coaches. It covers everything they need to know to start healthy, growing churches that are biblically faithful and yet culturally relevant. While addressing the who, why, and where of planting new congregations, this comprehensive manual focuses primarily on the "how-tos." The authors use a five-stage "life cycle" (conception, pre-natal development, birth/infancy, adolescent growth, and adult reproduction) to flesh out the entire process of starting and growing a new church. Under each of these stages, a host of essential ministry and planning tasks is addressed so the planter can keep his "baby" church on course and can have the joy of watching the new church grow to maturity and eventually reproduce itself.

David Garrison, PhD University of Chicago, defines Church Planting Movements as rapidly multiplying indigenous churches planting churches that sweep across a people group or population segment. Garrison's Church Planting Movements: How God Is Redeeming a Lost World signaled a breakthrough in missionary church planting. After the publication of Garrison's book in 2004 it became impossible to talk about missions without referencing Church Planting Movements. Church Planting Movements examines more than two-dozen movements of multiplying churches on five continents. After presenting these case studies, Garrison identifies ten universal elements present in each movement. He then broadens the circle of examination to identify a further ten common characteristics, factors identified in most, but not all, of the movements. He concludes his examination with a list of "Seven Deadly Sins," i.e. harmful practices that stifle or impede Church Planting Movements. Important for evangelical readers, the author returns to his findings to see how they stand up to the light of Scripture. What he discovers is that Church Planting Movements are much more consistent with the New Testament lay-led house-church movements that swept rapidly through the Mediterranean world in the face of hostile opposition than today's more sedentary professional institutionalized Christianity. This book is a manual that enforces Biblical principles, proven models and practical application for church planting. The content of this book is the fruit of many spiritual pioneers. These snapshots are of very brave men and women who chose to obey God and step out into spheres where there was no road map, operating instructions, and no guarantee of resources. The common denominator that all possessed was a responsive heart towards God, a heart that provoked bold action steps, and at the end of the day that left great legacies.

Leave A Legacy written by J. Russell Turney and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-15 with Religion categories.

In this second volume of the new APTS Press Monograph Series, Dr. Russ Turney presents a compelling case study of why some missionaries leave the field far too soon. Normal attrition occurs because of health problems, retirement, or the obvious call of God to go elsewhere. However, Turney notes that far too often missionaries leave due to interpersonal conflicts with their colleagues or nationals, problems with authority and other issues that, Turney contends, could be significantly reduced. He then presents an excellent strategy for dealing with these and other issues, enabling missionaries to continue in their calling long term and finish well. This strategy will help equip not only missionaries and mission leaders from both the West and the Majority World, but also pastors and church members who love and support missionaries and who want to learn how to strengthen them better through prayer and action. Anyone who shares the warm hearted conviction that missionaries can and should leave a legacy will benefit from this book. From the Foreword. . .
