Brasil: questões atuais da reorganização do território é parte de um projeto editorial que ambiciona renovar o conteúdo temático da Geografia brasileira. Seu objetivo maior é oferecer uma bibliografia nacional atualizada, de qualidade, de fácil acesso e entendimento, sem comprometer a complexidade que o tratamento dos temas exige. Paralelamente, seu conteúdo reflete a necessidade de comunicar novas perspectivas que vêm se afirmando no pensamento geográfico e que têm como objeto fundamental o espaço brasileiro. Ele é, pois, fruto de uma comunidade acadêmica madura que, tendo desenvolvido determinadas linhas de reflexão, procura divulgá-las, não apenas entre seus pares, mas também junto a um público leitor mais amplo, interessado em informações atualizadas sobre o país. Assim, todos os artigos que compõem a obra investigam as dinâmicas que, direta ou indiretamente, atuam sobre a organização do espaço no Brasil. Eles são também, em seu conjunto, o resultado de longos anos de pesquisas de grupos e laboratórios acadêmicos conduzidos por professores universitários, majoritariamente oriundos ou egressos da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ, que retribuem, dessa forma, os recursos públicos aplicados através da Universidade e de outras instituições de fomento à pesquisa, sobretudo CNPq e FINEP, aos seus legítimos detentores, a sociedade brasileira. Trata-se de uma dimensão não desprezível da pesquisa acadêmica, sobretudo no contexto atual de discussão da relação universidade-sociedade, que reforça o compromisso da primeira de produzir informações atualizadas, consistentes e úteis para a segunda. A Geografia brasileira, mais uma vez, cumpre o seu papel de tornar visíveis as dinâmicas a que está submetido o território nacional. Em seu conjunto, os trabalhos que compõem o livro são uma demonstração da especificidade da ciência geográfica que articula diferentes níveis de análise, propiciando diferentes leituras de um mesmo fenômeno, o que constitui um atributo epistemológico fundamental da Geografia. Como a abordagem geográfica do real enfrenta o problema básico do tamanho, que varia do espaço local ao planetário, e sendo o território o eixo dos problemas aqui discutidos, a noção de escala dos fenômenos contribui como recurso metodológico fundamental no tratamento dessas questões. Nesse sentido, os trabalhos aqui reunidos constituem material empírico que permite refletir sobre algumas proposições úteis à compreensão da operacionalidade da escala dos fenômenos estudados, sendo a organização dos temas apresentados baseada nos recortes já tradicionais das análises geográficas, ou seja, global, nacional, regional e local, não para obedecer a critérios de preservação de uma tradição, mas como um modo operacional do tratamento geográfico dos fenômenos. Brasil: questões atuais da reorganização do território é um conjunto articulado de textos resultantes de pesquisas diversas, que têm em comum, como objeto central, o estudo das novas dinâmicas que atuam na reestruturação do território nacional. Este livro responde à urgente necessidade de pensar o país diante dos complexos contextos forjados pela contemporaneidade.
