Confusion Of Tongues written by Miguel Gutierrez-Pelaez and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-15 with Psychology categories.

Sandor Ferenczi, Sigmund Freud's brilliant pupil as well as an innovative psychoanalyst, was silenced by various generations of his contemporaries until, in the past decades, his work began to be rediscovered. Certain aspects of his trauma theory, in fact, had never been thoroughly addressed, particularly, the connection he made between trauma and language. Miguel Gutierrez-Pelaez offers a new reading of Ferenczi by proposing a dialogue between the Hungarian psychoanalyst's work, philosophy, and contemporary psychoanalysis. Among the subjects covered, the book delves into the vulnerability of children and Ferenczi's never-ending search for a cure, the complex issue of war trauma and, more specifically, his anticipatory work in understanding the effects on the human psyche of the horrific experiences in concentration camps during World War II. These issues are raised against the backdrop of captivating figures like Jacques Lacan, Emmanuel Levinas, Giorgio Agamben, Derrida, Nietzsche, and Primo Levi, among others.

Metonymically Yours written by Miguel Gutierrez and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Creation (Literary, artistic, etc.) categories.

Metonymically Yours is a collection of writings and drawings that weaves my evolution as a "mark maker" into a broader conversation with lineage, aging, my obsession with Colombian camboys, isolation, grief over my father's illness and death, and the way that depression and addiction create a context for artmaking. Up until now my primary practice has been as a time based artist, working with dance, performance, and music. When I entered the Low Res program, I intended to make video art. Much to my surprise, I ended up focusing on something I had never really done before: drawing. I first created drawings on paper and then eventually started drawing on the walls of the studio. In the middle of my Year 2 crit, it occurred to me that both of my parents had a relationship to drawing -- my mother was trained as an architect and then as a draftsman, and my father was an electrical engineer who drew as part of his work and also periodically took up drawing as a pastime. This sudden revelation was profound and emotionally destabilizing. I have always seen my identity as an artist as anomalous within my family, veering from the expectations that were placed on me as the child of Colombian immigrants who wanted me to pick a more conventional profession. It was shocking to see that in some inchoate way, I was reaching for my parents, and especially my father, through my work, not just with its content, but through the medium itself. In Metonymically Yours, I use poems, essays, and images to flesh out the relationships between family, sexuality, sex workers, and my pathway through middle age. The thesis is punctuated by a series of poems about camboys that acknowledges their idiosyncrasies and the internal monologues that emerge from interacting with them. “Dear dad” is a poem/letter to my dead father, where I address his spectral presence as I think through my relationships to online porn, masturbation, and drawing. “Aging Awfully” is a meditation on aliens, alienation, sex, my body, and my father’s illness. In “Interview with my mother,” I ask my mother about her work as a draftsman, my father’s artistic tendencies, their relationship, and the way they talked (and didn’t talk) about my sister’s and my queerness. Finally, “Notes on drawing” is a personal account of my journey through mark making, how it compares to my experience as a dance artist, and a speculation on how technique and content interact. An appendix of drawings accompanies this essay, and drawings also appear throughout the rest of the thesis in various forms.

This book aims to present an up-to-date introduction and critical study of one of the most important psychoanalysts of all times, Sándor Ferenczi. The book presents Ferenczi as a person; his discovery of psychoanalysis and his relationship with Freud; the theoretical and clinical novelties he introduced to psychoanalysis; his deep political and social commitment, striving for the democratization of psychoanalysis; and the great relevance of his thought and perspective for the future. It also talks about his repression in the history of psychoanalysis as well as his influence in the following generations of psychoanalysts. The reader will be presented with the most relevant historical milestones and concepts, with new insights regarding some of Ferenczi’s most fundamental ideas (such as his trauma theory, his technical innovations or his developments regarding the end of analysis), as well as an informed viewpoint of his legacy, the contemporary readings of his work and the institutions and associations that continue following the path traced by l’enfant terrible of psychoanalysis. This book will be of interest both for the novel reader who has had none or scarce contact with the person and/or work of Sándor Ferenczi, as well as to the psychoanalysts, clinicians and scholars, who have a deeper contact and understanding of the work of the Hungarian analyst.

This monograph covers a fresh and original look at musical chords. The idea emanates from the fact that an intervallic representation of the chord leads naturally to a discrete barycentric condition. This condition itself leads to a convenient geometric representation of the chordal space as a simplicial grid. Chords appear as points in this grid and musical inversions of the chord would generate beautiful polyhedra inscribed in concentric spheres centered at the barycenter. The radii of these spheres would effectively quantify the evenness and thus the consonance of the chord. Internal symmetries would collapse these chordal structures into polar or equatorial displays, creating a platform for a thorough degeneracy study. Appropiate morphisms would allow us to navigate through different chordal cardinalities and ultimately to characterise complementary chords.

Address In Portuguese And Spanish written by Martin Hummel and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-20 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The volume provides the first systematic comparative approach to the history of forms of address in Portuguese and Spanish, in their European and American varieties. Both languages share a common history—e.g., the personal union of Philipp II of Spain and Philipp I of Portugal; the parallel colonization of the Americas by Portugal and Spain; the long-term transformation from a feudal to a democratic system—in which crucial moments in the diachrony of address took place. To give one example, empirical data show that the puzzling late spread of Sp. usted ‘you (formal, polite)’ and Pt. você ‘you’ across America can be explained for both languages by the role of the political and military colonial administration. To explore these new insights, the volume relies on an innovative methodology, as it links traditional downstream diachrony with upstream diachronic reconstruction based on synchronic variation. Including theoretical reflections as well as fine-grained empirical studies, it brings together the most relevant authors in the field.
