_____________________ The long-awaited sequel to KILL YOUR FRIENDS A Guardian Book of the Year 2018 It is 2017 – the time of Trump, Brexit and fake news. And time for the return of Steven Stelfox, former A&R man who made his millions from a hit reality TV show. Now Stelfox works occasionally as a music industry ‘consultant’. A fixer. He’s had a call from his old friend James Trellick, president of one of the largest record companies in America. Trellick has a huge problem on his hands in the shape of... Lucius Du Pre. Once the biggest pop star on earth. Now he’s a helpless junkie, a prolific sexual predator, and massively in debt to Trellick’s record company. And the picture only gets bleaker when the parents of one of Du Pre’s ‘special friends’ begin blackmailing him. Enter Stelfox stage right. He’s the perfect man to find a way out of this nightmare, and to make a killing in the process. There’s no line he won’t cross. _____________________ ‘A banging action satirical thriller. But it’s also a proper novel about the Trumpian era, of the reality TV era, the fake news era. It’s managed to say a lot of things in a way that very few other novels are doing and in a very comedic way’ IRVINE WELSH 'A bruising triumph; Amis' MONEY for the Trump generation. What a monster he's created' IAN RANKIN ‘John Niven understands our era better than almost anyone’ DOUGLAS COUPLAND ‘A scabrously entertaining satire of what it is like to be rich and white in the land of the free if you are utterly depraved, “where money doesn’t just talk, or swear, it nukes”. ... There is a twisted poetry in Niven’s mastery of invective’ THE TIMES ‘Savagely, viciously witty, this frantic hymn to greed is filthy, frenetic and totally fabulous’ SUNDAY MIRROR ‘A full-throttle send up of toxic masculinity ... Niven at full tilt is always something to behold.’METRO

This book deals with the rules that are in force in Europe for juvenile offenders. The aim of the rules is to uphold the rights and safety of juvenile offenders subject to sanctions or measures and to promote their physical, mental and social well-being when subject to community sanctions or measures, or any form of deprivation of liberty. It is based on Recommendation Rec(2008)11 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the European Rules for juvenile offenders subject to sanctions or measures, which was adopted on 5 November 2008. The first part of the book contains the text of the recommendation and is followed by a commentary which explains in finer detail the rules and the points raised by the text. The final section provides an analysis of the national replies to a questionnaire related to the treatment of juvenile offenders. This work will be of interest to human rights scholars, researchers and students of law, criminology and international relations.

A hard-hitting, and emotional story set in South Africa, following Themba and his dreams of becoming a famous footballer. Themba grows up dreaming of becoming a football star. One day he leaves the village and travels with his sister to the city in search of their mother. Life is a struggle and Themba has to grow up fast. A lucky break gives him the chance to train as a footballer and play professionally – but Themba has a secret – should he tell the truth about his HIV and risk everything he’s ever dreamed of? ~ Themba won an IBBY award - Best Book for Young People. Karin Chubb was Shortlisted for the Marsh Award for Children’s Literature in Translation for Themba, a unique award celebrating the high quality and diversity of translated fiction for young readers. The book was also made into an award-winning film. “Beautifully translated from the original ... it is a book full of hope and the more young people who read books like this and who come to understand how other young children live, the more this hope will spread.” Books, Teens and Magazines “Themba reminds me of my own childhood and youth in a township close to a small village in the Transvaal in South Africa: Like him I wanted to escape poverty, like him I had the hope that our world will be a just world one day – and like him I loved my mother who was working at the time as a maid for a white family. To be very honest: in soccer Themba seems to be simply better than I was.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu “READ OF THE MONTH” Pride magazine “...an inspirational coming of age drama about a young South African boy’s escape from poverty and the pusuit of a dream.” Spling onliner “It’s a rags to riches story – a story of hope, of dreaming your dreams and achieving them, and it’s also a story of friendship...” The Sunday Independent “It’s a really engaging book, and because Aids is a serious issue, it made us want to carry on reading more about it.” Durning Library teenage reading group “Beautifully translated from the original and it is an easy and straightforward read. However, the storyline is tough – poverty, AIDS and death haunt the pages of the book. The reader learns about the hardship of life for many ordinary South Africans (even after Mandela came to power) and the struggle for those families who have a family member suffering from AIDS. The problems they face do not lie solely in a lack of medication and good nutrition; it also lies in the ignorance of their neighbours and friends and a refusal of many to acknowledge the illness and help the ill. However this is not a depressing book – it is a book full of hope and the more young people who read books like this and who come to understand how other young children live, the more this hope will spread.” Books, Teens and Magazines

Cultural Studies And Discourse Analysis written by Chris Barker and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-08-09 with Social Science categories.

This novel and important book brings together insights from cultural studies and critical discourse analysis to examine the fruitful links between the two. Cultural Studies and Discourse Analysis shows that critical discourse analysis is able to provide the analytic context, skills and tools by which we can study how language constructs, constitutes and shapes the social world and demonstrates in detail how the methodological approach of critical discourse analysis can enhance cultural studies. In a richly argued discussion, the authors show how marrying the methodology of critical discourse analysis with cultural studies enlarges our understanding of gender and ethnicity.
