Finding humor in adverse situations has seen me through what some might consider rough times. From quadruple bypass surgery to the amputation of first, two toes, then a below-the-knee amputation of my left leg, I have been fortunate enough to have been gifted by God with a sense of humor that drove the psychiatrist at the veterans hospital crazy. I guess I was supposed to crash! Sorry, guys, I aint made that way! Eight years in the Marine Corps instilled in me the Semper-Fi attitudenever give up. Humor is a great healer. I try to have a big dose of it every day.

What if you were given a really big problem, a defect that would reduce you to a beggar in any third-world nation? If you had a major physical problem that in the not so distant past, you might have been killed at birth? You would have been too much of a problem to take care of, and your prospects would have been very limited. Phil Robertson has taken a humorous look at the rugged road of a monopod. This book is a collection of short stories from his life as a one-legged man.

As a kid, [the author found that] athletic competition provided some relief from an otherwise difficult childhood. Later, living in a foster home, it was the stage on which to gain attention that didn't seem to be available elsewhere. But it was only at the age of 25, when he had lost a part of very thing he relied on most to compete (specifically, the lower half of his left leg), that [the author] made his commitment--and went on to become a world champion triathlete and Paralympic competitor.-http://www.greycore.com.

Collection of early shorts from the legendary comedy pairing Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. 'Hustling for Health' (1919) begins with Laurel missing the train due to take him on holiday. He ends up moving in with a family instead, to take care of odd jobs, but causes as many problems as he solves. In 'One Too Many' (1916), the only short of the three not to feature Laurel, Hardy teams up with his pre-Laurel sidekick, Billy Ruge, to play the hapless duo of Plump and Runt. 'The Lucky Dog' (1921) marks the first joint appearance of Laurel and Hardy on screen, playing, respectively, a clueless man and a robber.

“Winning [and] intelligent. . . . [An] impressive, often heartening addition to the literature of aging.” — Heller McAlpin, Wall Street Journal In this “unique blend of memoir and literary commentary” (Bookpage), acclaimed author and literary scholar Susan Gubar contemplates the beauty and strength of enduring love—both for her husband and for the literature that has shaped her life. Throughout the complications of devoted caregiving, her own ongoing cancer treatments, and a stressful move to a more manageable apartment, Gubar proves that love and desire have no expiration date—on the page or in life. Late-Life Love offers a resounding retort to ageist stereotypes, appraises the obstacles unique to senior couples, and celebrates second chances.

‘Robin Dalton’s book is an excellent way to while away a summer’s afternoon in her company.’ Mail on Sunday UK At the age of ninety-five, Robin Dalton looks back on her life, particularly on her love life. Married at nineteen, disastrously, Robin has a lucky escape—her ‘Society Divorce’ makes the front page of Sydney newspapers, bumping the war to page three. Then there are the American and British servicemen in Sydney—the dancing, the many trysts and a number of not-too-serious engagements—before Robin travels to England ostensibly to marry one of those fiancés. While most of Europe struggles with post-war austerity, Robin’s days and nights are filled with extravagant dinners, parties with royalty and romantic getaways, until she meets the man who will become, for a brief few years before his early death, her second husband. One Leg Over is a story of love and romance, of fun and glamour, and of loss and great sadness. But above all it’s a celebration of a wonderful life. Robin Dalton was born in Sydney, and lived in London from 1946. She was a television performer, an intelligence agent, a literary agent and a film producer (Madame Souzatska starring Shirley Maclaine; Oscar and Lucinda starring Cate Blanchett), as well as an author. Her 1965 account of her childhood in Kings Cross, Aunts up the Cross remains an Australian classic. The previously unpublished My Relations was released in 2015. She died in 2022 at the age of 101. ‘It’s not every day a memoir is written by a nonagenarian (Robin Dalton is 96) but, on reflection, it makes sense that a long life, lived to the hilt, will make for far more interesting reading than the reflections of a precocious younger person, whose trials and tribulations have only just begun, so to speak...Dalton enjoys, I suspect, shocking the reader with her tales of romance, sexual encounters, several engagements and marriage...However, the content of One Leg Over should not be dismissed as fatuous and we are rewarded with a fascinating view of the upper classes in post-war England.’ Age ‘One Leg Over is a story of Robin’s most wonderful memories of a life so rich in experience.’ Yours Magazine ‘The journalist, author, intelligence agent, literary agent and film producer could never be accused of turning away from life. Her memoir, One Leg Over, is a slice of social history masquerading as a romp that tells us as much about 20th-century shifts in gender as any academic text.’ Australian

The Long-Awaited, Enormously Entertaining Memoir by One of the Great Artists of Our Time—Now a New York Times, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, and Publisher’s Weekly Bestseller. In this candid and often hilarious memoir, the celebrated director, comedian, writer, and actor offers a comprehensive, personal look at his tumultuous life. Beginning with his Brooklyn childhood and his stint as a writer for the Sid Caesar variety show in the early days of television, working alongside comedy greats, Allen tells of his difficult early days doing standup before he achieved recognition and success. With his unique storytelling pizzazz, he recounts his departure into moviemaking, with such slapstick comedies as Take the Money and Run, and revisits his entire, sixty-year-long, and enormously productive career as a writer and director, from his classics Annie Hall, Manhattan, and Annie and Her Sisters to his most recent films, including Midnight in Paris. Along the way, he discusses his marriages, his romances and famous friendships, his jazz playing, and his books and plays. We learn about his demons, his mistakes, his successes, and those he loved, worked with, and learned from in equal measure. This is a hugely entertaining, deeply honest, rich and brilliant self-portrait of a celebrated artist who is ranked among the greatest filmmakers of our time.
