What would motivate a successful corporate lawyer to trade in his comfortable life in America for three weeks every year to volunteer for manual labor on Israeli military bases? Mark Werner, son of a Holocaust survivor, is an ardent Zionist seeking a personal way to show support for Israel. Sar-el is an organization that enables thousands of volunteers from all over the world to work in a civilian capacity on Israeli military bases, freeing up IDF soldiers for more serious duties. This book is based on journals the author kept during 14 Sar-el stints from 2006 to 2019. Werner describes working through a desert sandstorm, dealing with a scorpion in his bunk, taking refuge in a bomb shelter during a Palestinian missile attack, and more. Through simple activities--from packing kitbags and medical supplies for the soldiers to filling sandbags and assembling tank antennas--the volunteers work hard to make their contributions to the defense of Israel. The camaraderie that develops between volunteers and soldiers as they work side by side is their greatest reward.

This book is written to counter a new sort of anti-Semitism Replacement Theology and to address other destructive, widespread distortions that cause Christians and Jews to misunderstand each other. History, stretching back to the Reformation, reveals a special commitment of Christians to the Jews as God's still elect people. This story needs to be told to help heal past wounds and to inspire more Christians to stand together in support of Israel. What is the new anti-Semitism that is on the rise in sectors of Christianity? What distortions are blinding people from seeing the Jews as God sees them? What truth does history reveal that has been kept hidden? Don't miss out on the blessings that God has for you when you discover the truth about Israel!

Praise for Coming Together, Coming Apart "Interesting conversation is Israel's most ingratiating commodity, and this is an especially interesting one. To read Coming Together, Coming Apart is to be engaged in an ongoing dialogue with one of Israel's most thoughtful observers--an American who made Israel his home, despite its imperfections and dangers. Gordis's conversational narrative is irresistible." --Alan dershowitz, author of The Case for Israel "Whether describing a walk through Jerusalem in snow, a hike in the desert, or a farewell family drive to the Gaza settlements, Gordis manages to capture the essential details that tell us the larger meaning of our Israeli lives. There is much irony in this book, and also anger, especially against those who unfairly judge Israel in its most desperate and noble times. Most of all, though, this book is the chronicle of a love story--of an immigrant family in Jerusalem falling in love with Israel and, through that love, discovering the strength to cope with life on the front lines of a jihadist war. As a fellow Jerusalemite, I feel a profound debt to Gordis for explaining what it means to raise a family in the middle of a terror zone, and the courage that average Israelis instinctively display in maintaining the pretense of normal life. Those of us who share his passion are fortunate to be so well represented by this book." --Yossi Klein Halevi, Foreign Correspondent, The New Republic

The Passion of the Chosen is about the Nation of Israel and its bond with the Holy Land of Israel known also as 'Palestine' - a name given to it by its Roman conquerers some 1800 years ago. It is about the Divine Covenants made with the three Patriarchs, Abraham, Yitzhaq and Ya'acov, that the Holy Land is gifted by God solely to the Nation of Israel, and in perpetuity and not at any time to any other nation or any subsequent claimants, a promise which was repeated endless times in the Bible and by all the Biblical prophets whose prophecies are quoted in this book. This book is not intended to be definitive, it is rather instead an attempt to fuse several disciplines: philosophy; history; biblical scholarship; Jewish and Kabbalistic fundamentals and the relevant international law background of the rights of the Jews to the Holy Land. This book is intended to provide an overall picture on these matters to the young and old, Jews and non-Jews in the Western and Eastern hemispheres, who have been submitted to media blitz on these issues without having a clue about the fundamental relevant facts. It is also intended to those who are puzzled by the continued Biblical process known as 'The Ingathering Israel's Exile to Zion' which has materialised over the past five hundred years and continues to the present day, seeing the Judean exiles returning to Zion from the four corners of the globe, cultivating the desolated parts of the land of Israel and settling in them and reviving Judea and Samaria, overcoming persistent wars and persecution by their enemies.

Personal and Passionate Reflections on the Land and Its People "The Mediterranean landscape, the exuberance of the Israelis, the way politics is a matter of life and death there-all these things beguiled me." -Erica Jong, author "What does Israel mean to me? Courage. The Israelis have more courage in their pinky finger than I have in my whole life." -Tovah Feldshuh, actress "It is an unparalleled story of tenacity and determination, of courage and renewal. And it is ultimately a metaphor for the triumph and enduring hope over the temptation of despair." -David Harris, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee "I have no desire to be like everyone else. Something in me wants the entry of the Jewish people into world politics to be judged by the highest conceivable measure. Indeed, that may be what is both so inspiring and confounding about the existence of Israel." -Rabbi Lawrence Kushner? "Israel isn't a symbol. Israel is the practical manifestation of hope, freedom, and self-determination." -Larry King, television host

Passion Of Israel written by Richard Francis Crane and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-15 with Religion categories.

In his lifetime, French philosopher Jacques Maritain (1882-1973) achieved a reputation as both a leading Catholic intellectual and an outspoken critic of anti-Semitism. Here, historian Richard Francis Crane traces the development of Maritain's opposition toward anti-Semitism and analyzes the Catholic appreciation of Judaism that animated his stance. Crane probes the writings and teachings of Maritain--before, during, and after the Holocaust--and illuminates how Maritain's ideas altered Christian perceptions of Jews and Judaism during his lifetime and continue to do so today.
