These poems are heartfelt expressions of the human experience which also express the thoughts, feelings and experiences of the author. Interestingly, one of the poems is presented politically and its theme might prove provocative in relation to our present day political debacles. Another poem in the collection, titled "Where do I go from here," expresses to readers Steinberg's disability and her struggle for her future. This book will undoubtedly move both your emotions and thoughts.

An example of Poe’s melancholic and morbid poetic pieces, "A Dream Within a Dream" is a poem that pitifully mourns the passing of time. The poet’s own life, teeming with depression, alcoholism, and misery, cannot but exemplify the subject matter and tone of the poem. The constant dilution of reality and fantasy is detrimental to the poetic speaker’s ability to hold reality in his hands. The quiet contemplation of the speaker is contrasted with thunderous passing of time that waits for no man. Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American poet, author, and literary critic. Most famous for his poetry, short stories, and tales of the supernatural, mysterious, and macabre, he is also regarded as the inventor of the detective genre and a contributor to the emergence of science fiction, dark romanticism, and weird fiction. His most famous works include "The Raven" (1945), "The Black Cat" (1943), and "The Gold-Bug" (1843).

Hebrew culture experienced a renewal in medieval Spain that produced what is arguably the most powerful body of Jewish poetry written since the Bible. Fusing elements of East and West, Arabic and Hebrew, and the particular and the universal, this verse embodies an extraordinary sensuality and intense faith that transcend the limits of language, place, and time. Peter Cole's translations reveal this remarkable poetic world to English readers in all of its richness, humor, grace, gravity, and wisdom. The Dream of the Poem traces the arc of the entire period, presenting some four hundred poems by fifty-four poets, and including a panoramic historical introduction, short biographies of each poet, and extensive notes. (The original Hebrew texts are available on the Princeton University Press Web site.) By far the most potent and comprehensive gathering of medieval Hebrew poems ever assembled in English, Cole's anthology builds on what poet and translator Richard Howard has described as "the finest labor of poetic translation that I have seen in many years" and "an entire revelation: a body of lyric and didactic verse so intense, so intelligent, and so vivid that it appears to identify a whole dimension of historical consciousness previously unavailable to us." The Dream of the Poem is, Howard says, "a crowning achievement."

The complete Dream Songs--hypnotic, seductive, masterful--as thrilling to read now as they ever were John Berryman's The Dream Songs are perhaps the funniest, saddest, most intricately wrought cycle of oems by an American in the twentieth century. They are also, more simply, the vibrantly sketched adventures of a uniquely American antihero named Henry. Henry falls in and out of love, and is in and out of the hospital; he sings of joy and desire, and of beings at odds with the world. He is lustful; he is depressed. And while Henry is breaking down and cracking up and patching himself together again, Berryman is doing the same thing to the English language, crafting electric verses that defy grammar but resound with an intuitive truth: "if he had a hundred years," Henry despairs in "Dream Song 29," "& more, & weeping, sleepless, in all them time / Henry could not make good." This volume collects both 77 Dream Songs, which won Berryman the Pulitzer Prize in 1965, and their continuation, His Toy, His Dream, His Rest, which was awarded the National Book Award and the Bollingen Prize in 1969. The Dream Songs are witty and wild, an account of madness shot through with searing insight, winking word play, and moments of pure, soaring elation. This is a brilliantly sustained and profoundly moving performance that has not yet-and may never be-equaled.

A Handful of Dreams is a project that took me over ten years, five heart breaks and a husband to complete. Now seriously, this is a dream I had when I was sixteen and it has been taking shape with every new, so to say, twist of the road. The book compiles over 90 poems organised under four headlines which try to analyse different ways of dreaming. The first one is called Castles In The Air and it is a collection of poems about language and the aim to find your own voice. In them one can see the impact of some deconstruction theories I came across in college. In short, Coming from a bilingual society, speaking five languages myself and having chosen a foreign language to be the vehicle of my work, besides the fact I am a Philologist, the voice and the art to convey what lies within is, of course, one of my main concerns. The second block, Delusion, compiles poems written with a bitter pen. They tell stories of delusion with people and lovers, but despite some lines may sound even somewhat harsh, they are lessons one must learn and from which to grow. Meeting my husband and the stability he has brought about can be seen in some poems from Reverie. Maybe these are the most light-hearted of all and with some poems sincerely dedicated to my best friends and family. At the end of the day they are like the almond tree flowers in the middle of winter, the hope of life and the assurance of beauty in the world. Awakening was the only logical ending for a dream. Here rather than waking up from a dream, it is eventually finding your voice. These poems deal with issues such as women's rights, identity, respect and more important even, self-respect. But poets should never talk much about their work, it is the work that must speak to the reader being the latter the only author in the end. I only hope mine do this as well. Cheers.

Night Thoughts written by Sarah Arvio and has been published by Knopf this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-08 with Poetry categories.

In this remarkable and unique work, award-winning poet Sarah Arvio gives us a memoir about coming to terms with a life in crisis through the study of dreams. As a young woman, threatened by disturbing visions, Arvio went into psychoanalysis to save herself. The result is a riveting sequence of dream poems, followed by “Notes.” The poems, in the form of irregular sonnets, describe her dreamworld: a realm of beauty and terror emblazoned with recurring colors and images—gold, blood red, robin’s-egg blue, snakes, swarms of razors, suitcases, playing cards, a catwalk. The Notes, also exquisitely readable, unfold the meaning of the dreams—as told to her analyst—and recount the enlightening and sometimes harrowing process of unlocking memories, starting with the diaries she burned to make herself forget. Arvio’s explorations lead her back to her younger self—and to a life-changing understanding that will fascinate readers. An utterly original work of art and a groundbreaking portrayal of the power of dream interpretation to resolve psychic distress, this stunning book illumines the poetic logic of the dreaming mind; it also shows us, with surpassing poignancy, how tender and fragile is the mind of an adolescent girl.
