'A Private World on a Nameless Bay' was originally published in 2000, this second edition of the history of Morisset Hospital contains updated information, more photographs and further details on Ward 21 and Ward 22, the original wards for the criminally insane. Site plans included in this edition show locations of all 22 wards, Kestrel Unit, staff accommodation, kitchens, laundries, farm areas, piggery, dairy, vegetable and flower gardens, therapy areas, sports and recreation areas, Recreation Hall, canteen, store, garage, etc. and the hospital's much loved War Memorial Chapel. In its early days, due to the location of Morisset Hospital, most staff came from the surrounding area and knew one another well. This ultimately created an unparalleled camaraderie with a workforce that, at all levels, had the welfare of patients as a core value. Morisset Hospital was a special community within the community of the Southlake region of Lake Macquarie. Staff seemed to consider the hospital more as an extension of family with patients more like friends. Patients were treated by staff in the same way as staff would want their own family member treated, had they been unfortunate enough to be suffering a mental illness. Perhaps in those earlier years workers didn't recognise the exceptional culture of their workplace. For decades that was simply the way it was.The story of Morisset Hospital is unique. Many locals spent their entire working lives at Morisset Hospital, many have a rich family history of generations working there. In later years, there were staff who succumbed to mental illness and spent their last days as patients in Morisset Hospital, being cared for by former colleagues. Towards the end of this edition, the sad story of Bill Denby, who was admitted to Morisset Hospital, aged 22, in 1909, raises the question, "Had Bill not had such a tough childhood, would he have ever been admitted to a mental institution at all?"Until we acknowledge and accept that mental illness can affect any one of us at any time in our lives, the associated stigma of mental illness will continue. We can change that.

Mental institutions hold a fascination for most people. First opened in 1909, Morisset Hospital has seen dramatic changes in the care of the mentally ill from barbaric treatments such as strait jackets to new drug free therapies. Intriguing stories abound about the generations of staff and patients at Morisset Hospital. Many such stories have become the stuff of urban legend. Morisset Hospital has lived through war, depression and attempts to close it down. The old lady still stands proud in her tattered finery in the beautiful bush surroundings which are full of wildlife and rare flora. The hospital is still caring for the mentally ill. It's hallowed walls hold many fond memories for the generations of staff who worked there. The history of this fine institution continues to be preserved in this much anticipated second edition.JAYE SMITHFormer Morisset Hospital nurse, also known as Mavis Frizzletit part time cult idol.

Most convicts arriving in New South Wales didn’t expect to make their fortunes. Some went on to great success, but countless convicts and free migrants struggled with limited prospects, discrimination and misfortune. Many desperate people turned to The Benevolent Society, Australia’s first charity founded in 1813, for assistance and sustenance. In this rich and revealing book, Tanya Evans collaborates with family historians to present the everyday lives of these people. We see many families who have fallen on hard times because of drink, unwanted pregnancy, violence, unemployment or plain bad luck, seeking help and often shunted from asylums or institutions. In the careful tracing of families, we see the way in which disadvantage can be passed down from one generation to the next. The extensive archives of The Benevolent Society allow us to reclaim these unknown lives and understand our history better, not to mention the often random nature of betterment and progress.

Colonial Transformations written by R. Bach and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-30 with Science categories.

Colonial Transformations covers early modern English poetry and plays, Gaelic poetry, and a wide range of English colonial propaganda. In the book, Bach contends that England's colonial ambitions surface in all of its literary texts. Those texts played multiple roles in England's colonial expansions and emerging imperialism. Those roles included publicizing colonial efforts, defining some people as white and some as barbarians, constituting enduring stereotypes of native people, and resisting official versions of colonial encounters.

Nameless may not like David Virden, but the case is simple enough: find his ex-wife—and they know where she is. Deliver some papers to her and it's all done. But she refuses the papers, sends a message to Virden to never contact her again, and slams the door. His colleague, Tamara, tells Nameless that Virden threatens to sue, stops payment on his checks, and claims that the woman they located isn't his wife. Then he disappears and his fiancée hires Nameless to find out why. Clearly, someone is trying to make Nameless the monkey in the middle. The investigation that Nameless's partner, Jake Runyon, has to undertake is personal...and urgent. His girlfriend Bryn's son, a pawn in a bitter divorce settlement, is being beaten and every indication is that his father is responsible. Is he bitter enough to take out his frustrations on a young boy, to fracture his arm? Then events turn on Jake: a dead woman, a bloodied Bryn, and a scared and silent child force him to look in other, darker, more deadly directions.
