When a scientist at the world's top AI company is murdered, a covert CIA operative must recruit a former love interest to help uncover the killer. With its genius CEO and breakthrough technology, the Silicon Valley-based Pax AI Corporation is one of the hottest companies in the sector. But when one of their top scientists is murdered at a prestigious tech conference, company executives and foreign spies are all on the suspect list. In the aftermath of the killing, CIA officer Colt McShane has been assigned to a joint counterintelligence unit based in San Francisco. The unit's leadership believes that an international espionage ring has been stealing classified technology from Pax AI. Now they want Colt to use his past relationship with Pax AI executive Ava Klein to penetrate the company's inner circle, and uncover the mole. But as Colt learns more about Pax AI's classified programs, he discovers just how powerful--and dangerous--their new technology can be. As the struggle for AI dominance grows ever more competitive, the factions vying for power are becoming desperate to achieve victory. In the fight for absolute power, there can be only one winner. Each side has their own spies and secrets. Whose side will win? And what secrets will they reveal? With FIREWALL, USA Today bestselling author Andrew Watts brings you a fast-paced, cerebral mystery that's part spy novel, part technothriller, and sure to keep you guessing every step of the way.

The rice belt of Laguna Province, Philippines (popularly known as the heartland of the Green Revolution for its early adoption of modern rice varieties), has experienced dramatic economic and social changes in the last quarter of the twentieth century. Besides the major advances in new rice technology, four major forces have prompted change: increasing population pressure on limited land; implementation of land reform programs; developments in infrastructure such as irrigation and roads; and penetration of urban economic activities. A unique data set generated from many surveys during the period 1966-97 in a typical village in Laguna, as put together in this book, illustrates a pattern of socio-economic change shared by many irrigated rice areas in the Philippines as well as in other Asian economies.

The aim of the Cancer Incidence in Five Continents series is to present data on cancer incidence from reliable registries in a standardized way so that comparisons between geographical areas and ethnic groups may be made with confidence. The efforts to build up cancer registration in areas of the world for which very little information on cancer occurrence is available are bearing fruit, and some of the results appear in this volume. Of particular note is the reappearance of Uganda, Kyadondo County - a registry for which data were published in Volume I but which was not able to contribute data until the period covered by the present volume. There are contributions from five new registries in Asia (including, for the first time, data from Korea and Vietnam) and from four in South America (presenting data from Argentina and Uruguay for the first time). An innovation in Volume VII is the analysis of histological sub-types for selected sites using data which have been checked for validity.

Richard Iii written by Charles Ross and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-28 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Richard III ruled England for a mere twenty-six months, yet few English monarchs remain as compulsively fascinating, and none has been more persistently vilified. In his absorbing and universally praised account, Charles Ross assesses the king within the context of his violent age and explores the critical questions of the reign: why and how Richard Plantagenet usurped the throne; the belief that he ordered the murder of "the Princes in the Tower"; the events leading to the battle of Bosworth in 1485; and the death of the Yorkist dynasty with Richard himself. In a new foreword, Professor Richard A. Griffiths identifies the attributes that have made Ross's account the leading biography in the field, and assesses the impact of the research published since the book first appeared in 1981. "A fascinating study on a perennially fascinating topic… the base against which will be measured any future research."--Times Higher Education Supplement

Migration And The Making Of Industrial S O Paulo written by Paulo Fontes and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-15 with History categories.

Published in 2008 and winner of the 2011 Thomas E. Skidmore Prize, Paulo Fontes's Migration and the Making of Industrial São Paulo is a detailed social history of São Paulo's extraordinary urban and industrial expansion. Fontes focuses on those migrants who settled in the suburb of São Miguel Paulista, which grew from 7,000 residents in the 1940s to over 140,000 two decades later. Reconstructing these migrants' everyday lives within a broad social context, Fontes examines the economic conditions that prompted their migration, their creation of an integrated identity and community, and their efforts to gain worker rights. Fontes challenges the stereotypes of Northeasterners as culturally backward, uneducated, violent, and unreliable, instead seeing them as a resourceful population with considerable social and political resolve. Fontes's investigations into Northeastern life in São Miguel Paulista yield a fresh understanding of São Paulo's incredible and difficult growth while outlining how a marginalized population exercised its political agency.
