Sometimes the past cannot be forgotten... Margaret Thornton writes a heartrending saga in A Stick of Blackpool Rock - the story of a young mother escaping the past, only to have it catch up with her again. Perfect for fans of Maureen Lee and Lyn Andrews. 'A brilliant read' - Woman's Realm For several years Ellen Bamber has helped her mother run a sweet stall on Preston Market. But by night she has suffered the violence of her drunken husband, tolerating his abuse for the sake of their two young children, Rachel and George. Then, following an evening's excessive drinking, William falls into the path of a hansom cab and dies, and Ellen can't help feeling that her silent prayers have been answered. But a few days after William's funeral Ellen discovers that her husband was not only violent but also unfaithful, and the knowledge of his illegitimate child tears her apart. Even when she moves her family to Blackpool and Ellen sets up in the rock-making industry and remarries, she still fears that one day the legacy of William's misconduct will destroy the happiness she and her children have fought so hard to achieve... What readers are saying about A Stick of Blackpool Rock: 'Would recommend this book, got totally engrossed in it' 'I loved it, didn't want to put it down each night - It had a bit of everything' 'Five stars'

Wahhabism is an Islamic reform movement found mainly in Saudi Arabia. Closely linked to the Saudi monarchy, it enforces a strict code of morality and conduct monitored by mutawa (religious police), and governs every facet of Saudi life according to its own strict interpretation of Shariah, including gender segregation. Wahhabism also prohibits the practice of any other faith (even other forms of Islam) in Saudi Arabia, which is also the only country that forbids women from driving. But what exactly is Wahhabism? This question had long occupied Valentine, so he lived in the Kingdom for three years, familiarizing himself with its distinct interpretation of Islam. His book defines Wahhabism and Wahhabi beliefs and considers the life and teaching of Muham-mad ibn Abd'al Wahhab and the later expansion of his sect. Also discussed are the rejection of later developments in Islam such as bid'ah; harmful innovations, among them celebrating the prophet's birthday and visiting the tombs of saints; the destruction of holy sites due to the fear of idolatry; Wahhabi law, which imposes the death sentence for crimes as archaic as witch- craft and sorcery, and the connection of Wahhabism with militant Islam globally. Drawing on interviews with Saudis from all walks of life, including members of the feared mutawa, this book appraises of one of the most significant movements in contemporary Islam.

COMMON AS MUCK! tells an incredible story of hardships, heartbreak and, ultimately, success. What do you do if ... you need to seek a court order against a former employee who has set up in competition with you, having first helped themselves to your customer database? ... Or if you are deluged with complainants who have bought products they thought were yours, but turn out to have been made from inferior materials and without your knowledge or consent? ... Or if you receive a solicitor's letter complaining that a product you are about to launch infringes their client's trade mark or registered design? Jane Lambert's concise and practical guide gives you the knowledge that you need to make crucial decisions to protect your intellectual assets before it is too late. It should be kept close at hand for use in emergencies, just like a first aid manual. Its purpose is to alert you to problems so that you can take the right steps to manage them, in consultation with your professional advisors, before they develop into crises. If you are planning an enforcement strategy, looking for the optimum patent or registered trade mark or design protection and to secure the appropriate insurance to make sure you have a fund available to enforce these, then this book is for you. If you're already in hot water, someone with an intellectual property problem who needs to make fast decisions in very little time, then this book is for you too. It could help you avoid the most expensive mistake of your life.
